From diamonds to platinum! Rihanna is almost unrecognisable as she goes blonde for a sexy topless photoshoot

Rihanna is a lot of things - shy is not one of them.

The 27-year-old has tried out a dramatic new look as part of a rather racy photoshoot for V Magazine.

While getting sexy in front of the camera is nothing new, being platinum blonde certainly is.

Released early on Tuesday ahead of the magazine' hitting shelves May 7, the singer does not look like herself as she dons a white blonde wig.

While styled in a demure 1960s-inspired flip cut complete with bangs and mini-bouffant, the Diamonds singer's shoot did not follow suit.

Instead the star - as per usual - all but ditches clothes as she enjoys in a sil that has been converted into a pool at an oil refinery.

In another image, Rihanna shows off her famed physique wearing a pair of very short booty shorts with a cropped T-shirt which features plenty if underboob.

The star then glams it up as she reclines in the pool in a white one piece Versace bathing suit with a matching fur and white and Manolo Blahnik perspex heels.

Of course, the hitmaker is not wallflower so, for the cover, the star really turned up the heat wearing nothing but a pair of high cut bikini bottoms and her blonde wig.

The high voltage shoot - although photographed by Steven Klein styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele - was according to the magazine 'months in the making from the creative brain of Rihanna herself'.

With the star known for her love of pushing the envelope and also what constitutes nudity -something that saw her and Instagram at odds for some time - Rihanna explained it is all about trying to ensure she does not get bored.

The star said when asked about her Instagram controversy: 'I run away from anything that does not stimulate me. I often find myself gravitating toward the underground. There is a certain creative freedom there that you can't experience anywhere else.'

As for what letting it all hang out means for privacy, she bluntly replied: 'Do I even give a dick about that anymore?'

Besides stripping down and going platinum, the star also spoke about her upcoming eight studio album, which already has one big fan - herself.

She told V: 'Dude, I'm in love with my interludes. This one called 'James,' joint is on constant repeat. [The album is] soulful and aggressive, whether it's lyrically, musically, or just the tone of my voice.

'My eight studio album was a place for me to completely express myself creatively with no boundaries and try anything I wanted.

There has yet to be a release date assigned to her new album - believed to be called R8.
