Dressed to impress: Salma attended a photocall for her new movie The Tale of Tales but it was the actress rather than the flick which got people talking
It stars Salma as a childless queen who is willing to do anything to conceive, along with Vincent Cassel, Toby Jones and John C. Reilly as three troubled kings.
Loosely adapted from 17th century fairy tales, it promises the sight of Salma eating the heart of a beast.

While Salma is keeping busy with work right now, she has previously admitted she became 'frustrated' with acting.
The actress confessed she nearly gave up on the movie industry because none of the roles she was offered after starring in Frida Kahlo biopic Frida in 2002 were the kind of things she wanted so she almost turned her back on her career to raise her daughter.

The brunette beauty - who has seven-year-old Valentina Paloma with her husband François-Henri - said: 'I was very frustrated in my early forties because after Frida I was disappointed that I wasn't getting good roles; when I had my baby I thought that this was my new life and so why should I keep being unhappy in my career.
'Acting had become more like a hobby rather than something I was driven to do.'
However, Salma is pleased she has started to find herself playing more 'fun and interesting' characters.

She told Total Film magazine: 'It's very exciting. There's so much action that you don't know what to expect from one moment to the next.
'I'm glad that I'm doing projects that I find fun and interesting.'
Salma recently turned to directing, premiering her animated film The Prophet at the Toronto International Film Festival, which is based on Kahlil Gibran's poetry book of the same name.

Salma considers herself a spiritual person but she does not subscribe to any classic faith even though she was raised a Catholic.
Talking to The Guardian newspaper, Salma explained: 'I am a spiritual person but I am not a religious spiritual person. I don't want anyone giving rules to my relationship with God. Sometimes I find spirituality in art or in science because it's about discovering the source of who we are. Spirituality is about creation and the exploration of the unknown.
'I was brought up as a Catholic and I have respect for it and I got a lot of good things out of it. I believe in values that are very similar to Catholics. I also like this Pope very much. I really like him!'

However, a reflective Salma is always disappointed by the division and hatred religion can cause among people.
The star shared: 'I think that sometimes it's religion that keeps up separate though. If you take the religion out, if you take all the countries away, all the culture away, you will find that there is a purity to a human being and a unity to who we are.'
Meanwhile, Salma admitted there were a number of challenges on the set of Tale of Tales.
Challanges: Salma admitted there were a number of challenges on the set of Tale of Tales
The main attraction: All eyes were on Salma as she posed for pictures with her director and co-star
She explained to journalists in Cannes: 'They gave me a dress that weighed about thirty kilos. And I was in an outdoor labyrinth, and they said: OK walk to this point, and it would take me forty-five minutes. Then Matteo would say: "Oh, look at the light, we have to do that shot again, in a different spot," and I was all sweaty.
'After trying to jump over her obstacles to avoid the walk, 'the dress was so heavy that I got stuck. So finally three guys had to pick me up. It was so humiliating…'
Salma also revealed she got some advice from her daughter on the 'heart' she had to eat
According to Variety, she said: 'The director wanted the heart to be identical to a real [animal] heart, even inside. All the exact parts. I took a bite, and I thought I would recognise what I was eating. But I did not. There was pasta, candy, all kinds of disgusting things. Thankfully my daughter Valentina was there. The third time I gagged, she said to me: "if you bite from the front you can turn around and spit it out, and the camera won't see it.'"
Joking around: Salma and John shared a smile at the press conference for the flick
Drama: Salma revealed there were issues on set, including trying to walk in a 45kg dress
Co-star: Bebe Cave was pretty in stripes as she made her way to the photocall
Kicking off the week in style: This is just one of the many movies which will premiere over the course of the festival
