Emmy winner Dame Maggie Smith hilariously hits back at host Jimmy Kimmel after he dubs her lame for 'Downton Absence' at ceremony

Emmy winner Dame Maggie Smith hilariously hits back at host Jimmy Kimmel after he dubs her lame for 'Downton Absence' at ceremony

She was feted with the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award at Sunday night's Emmy Awards.
While Dame Maggie Smith could not accept the award in person, the show's host Jimmy Kimmel drew huge attention to her absence as he stormed the stage saying: 'Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found.'
The 81-year-old actress, given the nod for her work in Downton Abbey, has now shown her wicked sense of humour as she hit back at the US funnyman in a hilarious acceptance speech.

Jimmy took aim at Maggie in his opening monologue due to the fact she has now-won four Emmys and been nominated for a whopping nine - yet never attended the ceremony, much to the chagrin of the host.
As Minnie Driver and Michael Weatherly presented the award to the star remotely, he stormed the stage, grabbed the award saying: 'Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found.'
Since Sunday night's award show, Maggie, who is famed for playing Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton, gave an incredibly witty response to Jimmy's raging speech regarding her absence.
In her remote acceptance speech she wrote: 'I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me. If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight. Love, Old Maggie.'

The tongue-in-cheek mutiny between the pair reached fever pitch during Jimmy's opening speech in which he spent over a minute of the seven minute monologue discussing her absence.
He said: 'This year for the first time ever, you must be present to win. If we call your name and you're not here to accept the Emmy goes to the next person on the list - it's called the Maggie Smith rule.
'This, if you don't know, is she's been nominated nine times, won three times (prior to Sunday's win). How many times do you think she turned up to accept the award? That's right, no times. This time she had a Sunday ceramics class she couldn't get out of.
'When Maggie Smith finds out she's been awarded with an Emmy she has the same reaction we get when we get Bed Bath And Beyond coupons in the mail. Right in the garbage.

'She goes to other awards! She went to the Oscars to get an Oscar. She went to the Tonys. She goes to the Soul Train Awards every year. But is she here in this audience tonight? I don't see her. She's Downton Absent, is what she is for the ninth time. What is wrong with us why do we keep nominating her? She's treating us like the People's Choice Awards.
'I have a message for you lame Maggie Smith if you're bothering to watch. If you want an Emmy you better get on a plane and get your Dowager Countess ass over here.'
Sunday night's win was the actress' fourth, having won twice before for her performance as Violet Crawley in Masterpiece Theatre's costume drama, as well as taking home the outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or movie for My House In Umbria in 2003.
Kimmel pointed out to the audience that Smith had shown up to collect her two Academy Awards, for The Prime Of Miss Brodie and California Suite back in the 1970s, and also picked up her Tony Award in 1990 for the Broadway play Lettice and Lovage.

Downton Abbey's Lily James goes topless for new Burberry perfume campaign

Eau la la! Lily James is worlds away from demure Downton Abbey days as she goes topless for new Burberry perfume campaign

She gained legions of fans while portraying the rebellious-yet-demure Lady Rose on period drama Downton Abbey, as well as her titular role in Cinderella.
But Lily James, 27, couldn't be further removed from her aristocratic and Disney princess characters in her latest project, which sees her going topless.
The brunette beauty has been selected as the new face of the My Burberry Black perfume campaign - and she's baring all in the racy new advertisement.

Lily soon begins to spray the perfume onto herself before turning her back to the camera and removing her stylish outerwear to reveal her naked body.

And the screen star is revelling in the opportunity to appear in such a high-profile campaign - particularly as she's following in the footsteps of big names in fashion.
'It was such an honour to follow in the footsteps of Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne in such an iconic campaign,' she said.
'I remember seeing them in the My Burberry campaign when it launched and I loved it. I was so excited to be asked.'

And while she's thrilled to be taking on the new role, Lily has put some of her own personality into the campaign.
She said: 'For the new My Burberry Black campaign, I would I say I am bringing, and the My Burberry Black perfume is bringing, a more sensual side and scent, and I think that this campaign reflects that – whilst hopefully still bringing out my own personality.
'I think that’s what Kate and Cara did so well and why that campaign was so amazing. You just felt their energy and their personalities – they're so real, fun and gorgeous.'

Lily James admits she's not sure if Prince William is really a Downton Abbey fan during appearance on Graham Norton Show

'He might just say that to be terribly nice': Lily James admits she's not sure if Prince William is really a Downton Abbey fan during appearance on Graham Norton Show

Downton Abbey is said to have the royal seal of approval with Prince William and Kate Middleton being fans of the show.
But Lily James has admitted she never knows whether the royals are really fans of the show as she explained: ‘You never know if he’s just saying that to be terribly nice.’
The 27-year-old made the revelation as she filmed her appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Thursday evening.

Listing all her encounters with the royal family, she explained: ‘I sang at The Queen’s 80th, I’ve shaken Prince Charles’s hand and then I met Prince William.
‘Apparently Prince William is a Downton fan but you never know if he is just saying that to be terribly nice.’
The British beauty took her place on the famous red coach alongside legend Joan Collins, actor Richard Madden, and TV chef Paul Hollywood.

Lily and Richard were on hand to talk about being the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet in Kenneth Branagh’s latest stage production.
Asked by Joan if it is difficult to learn Shakespeare, Richard answered, ‘Yes, but when you are working with Kenneth, who is amazing, encouraging and inspiring but runs a tight ship, we had to know our lines before day one of rehearsal.’
Lily added, ‘We did the whole play at the end of that first week.’
It’s been a great month for Lily after she landed her first global advertising campaign.

The British actress has just revealed she will follow Kate Moss and Cara Delevigne as the new face of My Burberry fragrances, inspired by the label's iconic trench coat.
Announcing the news on Monday, she gushed: 'I am thrilled to be officially joining the Burberry family. I am so proud to be British, so it really means a lot.'
She added: 'Shooting my first campaign was so special – I don't want to give away too much but I had a lot of fun showing a different side of myself…'
While images for the new My Burberry Black launch won't be released until August, Lily's statement suggests they will show a more sultry side to the actress who is known for her squeaky-clean, girl-next-door image.
