She's long been known as Gigi Hadid's little sister.

And the brunette showed she can more than hold her own as she shared pictures from an upcoming issue of W magazine on Monday morning.

Rihanna stars as a 'fearless' dystopian leader for striking W Magazine cover

Good girl gone bad! Rihanna stars as a 'fearless' dystopian leader for striking W Magazine cover - and even wears her own HARNESS for the shoot

  •  The 28-year-old appears on the front of a special collector's issue of the fashion magazine, her second September issue
  • She also appears in a film to accompany the shoot, in which she leads a group against the 'thinking robot' ruling class
  • Designers including Dior, Maison Martin Margiela, and Prada created custom pieces for the occasion
Rihanna's landed the coveted cover of the September issue of W Magazine — and a slew of top designers pitched in to create custom, one-of-a-kind pieces to clothe the star for the occasion.
This marks the 28-year-old singer's second time covering W's September issue, and to celebrate, John Galliano, Miuccia Prada, and Gareth Pugh offered up original designs that played into the shoot's dystopia theme, wherein RiRi is the 'fearless leader and warrior' fronting the fight for creativity against the 'thinking machine' ruling class.
On the cover, Rihanna goes especially bold, her lips covered in sparkling red gems and Cartier diamond dripping from her face and neck.

Rihanna certainly got the star treatment for the occasion. Her cover make-up was done by Pat McGrath Labs, and she was even allowed to wear her own small cuff earring and chain necklace throughout the shoot — because really, who says no to Rihanna?
In one regal shot — in which it's quite clear she's the rebel queen in the scene — Rihanna dons an oversized puffy gold coat and sharp, Statue of Liberty-like headpiece by Gareth Pugh coat while a half-clothed, chained man lays at her feet and fire rages on in the background.
In another, she wears a Maison Margiela Haute Couture cape created by John Galliano just for her, looking menacing as she tugs at the chain of a pit bull. She's also strapped into a harness — which W credits as her own from home.

Throughout the shoot, which was photographed by legendary photographer Steven Klein, Rihanna also wears a jacket, corset, and pants from her Fenty Puma by Rihanna line, as well as customized pieces from Dior and Loewe.
The editorial was styled by Edward Enninful, who explained on the magazine's website why it was so important to populate the piece with custom outfits.
'When I talked to Rihanna, I told her that I didn’t think she should wear clothes off the runway because a queen gets her clothes made,' he said

'Everybody used the theme of the last woman on earth. So basically if she was the last woman on earth, what would she wear? How would she protect herself?' he went on.
Edward added that RiRi was very involved, offering input even though she was quite busy on tour at the time.
Besides the in-book shoot, Rihanna also participated in a short film to accompany the issue, which was created by Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker and reflected the theme.
