2013 How To Impress Me: Meghan Markle - Esquire Magazine

How To Impress Me: Meghan Markle

Dating advice from the stunning American 'Suits' star

markle-43

Meghan Markle is dressed for a night on the town.
Lithe and golden with tumbling dark hair and boundless positivity, she’s a glimmer of LA sunshine on a cold November evening in London.
“I love how much men call you ‘darling’ here,” the star of Suits star giggles. “I’m a sucker for a compliment.”We can’t imagine she struggles for them.
As well as managing to be stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous and warm at the same time, Markle is impressively multi-skilled: she’s worked for the US embassy in Buenos Aires, is shortly taking a turn on Gordon Ramsey’s Hell's Kitchen to improve her (already impressive) cooking skills and on a recent trip to Dublin she 'learned how to pull the perfect pint'.
Women like this are a rarity. But on the off chance you ever encounter one, we asked Meghan the best way to go about impressing her.
***

Kindness is the number one quality I look for in a man. You can see in how he treats anyone – from a CEO to a housekeeper –  and it’s a reflection of how nice a guy is. Funniness and confidence come after that.

I can’t stand it when men are snarky. Catty is not cool. I can’t think of anything less becoming than a man who talks about people behind their backs.

When a guy approaches me, it’s fantastic if he can make me laugh. But there’s a fine line between being funny and being obnoxious. Some of the lines I’ve heard I could never repeat, because they’re too vulgar. That’s definitely not what you want to open with.

I was in Dublin a few days ago picking up an award at Trinity College, and one of the students there stood up in a room of 400 people and said: "Will you go for a drink with me tonight?" His confidence was so incredibly attractive. It would have been inappropriate to go, but I love that he asked.

I like it when a man puts thought into the kind of restaurant we’re going to. That doesn’t mean it needs to be fancy –  some of the best meals of my life have been having a taco on a street corner.

It's nice to be relaxed on a date.  For work I get so dolled up that it's nice to wear boyfriend jeans and a sweater.

At work [shooting Suits] I’m surrounded by men wearing beautiful bespoke suits. There is something that is so attractive about seeing a man who has put that much effort into his look. But for me, guys wearing converse and jeans is best.

The best job a man could have would be a chef. They’d understand the long hours I work and the drive and ambition it takes to succeed.

A man has no business taking two hours in the bathroom. When I get ready to go out, it's half hour and we’re out of the door. I don’t want to waste time getting ready: I want to go and have fun.

I’m really big on day dates. If you go for a stroll, have a picnic or lunch with a glass of wine – it doesn't get better than that.

I love how British guys dress for the cold. I’m from LA so I'm used to seeing people in sunglasses and flip-flops. There’s something so romantic about a man in a scarf and a knitted hat.

It's really attractive if a man has a skill that you want to improve in yourself. If you can learn from someone, then that’s sexy.

Meghan hosted the  fourth annual London Global Gift Gala, the funds from which  helps to provide shelter, food, clothing, education, medical attention and other life-changing necessities to vulnerable groups, in particular children and women in need, on November 19th at ME Hotel, London. Serayah continued, reflecting on her time working on the video: 'It was (and has continued to be) a very encouraging experience.'

Speaking of Taylor, the star - who recently signed a record deal with Columbia Records - shared that though they haven't made plans to record together yet, her new BFF has given her quite a bit of advice.
'She's such a talented artist and has reminded and encouraged me to stay true to how I see myself and how I want to convey myself in my music career, and to stick to that as I move forward with recording,' Serayah said.
The two have been seen spending plenty of bonding time together in addition to working on the video, with Serayah joining Taylor onstage at a stop on her 1989 World Tour as well as at her star-studded Fourth of July bash at her home in Rhode Island.
Still in touch: Serayah recently showed Taylor her support at the Grammys, where the blonde beauty picked up three awards - including one for Best Music Video for Bad Blood - (pictured with Selena Gomez, R)

The pair were also spotted showing off smiles as they posed backstage at the 2016 Grammys, where Taylor picked up three awards.
Serayah cited Taylor's award-winning Bad Blood video - as well as Beyonce's controversial Formation - as pieces drawing 'more attention to the experiences of women.'
'Women are empowering each other and pushing each other in the right ways more than ever, publicly,' the Empire star said.
Working together: The Empire star also made a guest appearance during the Chicago stop of Taylor's 1989 World Tour

In that vein, Serayah showed her support for Beyonce's video, explaining that she didn't think Beyonce 'had any negative intentions with it and, looking at it, the video carried a great message.'
'All art, however it is expressed, is acceptable…because it's how someone feels,' she reasoned, adding: 'Some people might disagree with what is being said, but that doesn't take away from a person's right to say it.'
The confident performer also said that she has been taking notes from her Empire character Tiana, who 'always owns the space she's in.'

'It's been hugely important to become comfortable with them and to learn how to stop apologizing for myself, which women (myself included) seem to have been conditioned to do,' Serayah explained.
She stars alongside Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and Gabourey Sidibe in the Fox hit, which airs Wednesdays at 9pm.

Elvis' model granddaughter Riley Keough puts on a very sexy display in risque shoot for Esquire

Elvis' model granddaughter Riley Keough puts on a very sexy display in risque shoot for Esquire - as she reveals she once sold a watch Michael Jackson gave her for $5

  • The 26-year-old strips down to a see-through top, panties, and a cut-out sweater in the magazine's March issue
  • She said she has always liked making money, and used to hold sales for her mother's staff, selling her personal things — like Jackson's watch
  • The Girlfriend Experience star added that she doesn't really think about the fact that Elvis was her granddad because she never met him
With the one and only Elvis Presley as her grandfather, Riley Keough didn't exactly have to work in order to live in the lap of luxury — but she's never been afraid to put in the time in order to earn some cash of her own.
The 26-year-old model-turned-actress poses in a seriously sexy shoot in the March issue of Esquire magazine, where she opens up about her work ethic and love of raking in the big bucks.
She loves it so much, in fact, that as a kid she was willing to sell a gift given to her by her former stepfather Michael Jackson — for a measly five dollars.

'I was always interested in having my own money — not my family's money,' she told the magazine. 'I don't think it had anything to do with me being Elvis's granddaughter. None of my drive was I need to get away from my family legacy! I wanted to save up the money to go to film school.
'But I always wanted my own money, and I just loved working,' she went on. 'I'd set up a little store in the living room and sell stuff that I'd been given, for a dollar, to my mother's staff. I remember this Disney watch that Michael gave me. I think I sold that for five.'
Amazingly, the star progeny doesn't seem put-off about the fact that she clearly got fleeced for such a precious heirloom, which would probably fetch thousands at auction today.
Riley's mom, Lisa Marie Presley, married Michael Jackson on May 26, 1994, and the two were divorced during the summer of 1996.
In fact, Riley — who posed for a series of super-sexy shots for the issue which see her revealing plenty of skin in see-through lace tops and underwear — doesn't really see the big deal about her famous heritage.Fame: Riley's mom is Lisa Marie Presley, right, Elvis' daughter — who was once married to Michael

'People always ask, "How crazy is it that your grandpa was Elvis and your stepdad was Michael Jackson?"' she said. 'I make them happy and say, "Yeah, it's soooo crazy!" But actually, I don't think about it, ever.
'The reality is, I know as much about my grandpa as you'd know about a grandpa you never met,' she admitted.
The Blue Suede shoes singer died in August of 1977, over a decade before Riley was even born in May of 1989.
In terms of making money as an actress, though, Riley said that it hasn't been as easy as she thought it would be after quickly booking a role in the film The Runaways.
'I had a little lucky streak from a minute, booked another movie. Booked another movie. Booked another movie. [I thought), "This is f***ing easy". I see this with a lot of people who start acting,' she said. You go in — "I got this", and you're cocky, and people like that, so they hire you.

'Then you get beaten up little bit. Everything crashes. "Oh my God. Am I a s*** actor?" The you're not so cocky.'
Luckily for the blonde stunner, she seems to have rebounded. She now stars in the Starz series The Girlfriend Experience, in which she plays a call girl.
The new issue of Esquire also features a shoot with Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who talked about Jon Stewart passing the torch, as well as his childhood in Apartheid South Africa — where he used his sense of humor to break up racial tension.
'Let's say a group of white kids were about to fight with a group of black kids. You could break the tension with a perfectly placed comment and crack everybody up,' he said.
'And now, once they've laughed, they can't fight. Because now they've broken that facade of impenetrability. That was always my favorite thing...to pierce a moment with a well-timed joke.'
