Lion pips Oscars-favourite La La Land to win L.A. Italia Fest's Best Picture accolade... so could it go on to do the same at the Academy Awards?

Its clear sweep of successful Best Picture gongs means all signs point to La La Land for next week's top film accolade at the Academy Awards.

But Lion might be hot on the heels of the all-singing, all-dancing flick after scooping the win at this weekend's L.A. Italia Fest.

The Garth Davis drama, about an adopted Indian boy in Calcutta, defied the odds to prove that it's still in with a shot at next week's Oscars.

Producer Harvey Weinstein and screenwriter Luke Davies were there to collect the award at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, on Sunday.

Hinting at high hopes that the film will do the same next week, movie mogul Harvey told MailOnline, recently: 'I think the Lion time has come, we didn’t predict it when made it and we didn’t know that stuff like this would happen but it did.

'In a way it becomes a source of hope, I think, to me more than anything else for so many people and I’m proud of it for that reason.'

All-singing, all-dancing: The film and its stars have already collected Golden Globes, SAG Awards and BAFTAs

Meanwhile at the ceremony, Sunny Pawar, the eight-year-old star of the film, was presented with the Child Performer of the Year Award.

He plays young Saroo Brierley, while British actor Dev Patel portrays his older self and collected the prestiged Best Supporting Actor gong for his role, at the BAFTAs just last week.

So far this year, Lion has been beaten by La La Land at the Critics' Choice Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTAs in the Best Picture category.

But film insiders are hopeful the film could go the distance and potentially even beat the critics' early favourite, following their great success at the BAFTAs, last Sunday.

A source told MailOnline: 'After Dev’s [BAFTA] win there was a lot of backstage and after party gossip saying that perhaps LION could pull off a big shock at the Oscars.

'La La Land has long been the favourite to sweep up but the feeling is that Lion has a lot of momentum right now and that’s certainly confirmed by Dev’s win at BAFTA.

'It's doing incredibly well at the box office all around the world and the talk from inside the industry is how this year’s best picture Ocar could be a close one if Lion continues to gain such strong momentum.'

Furthermore, adding to the underdog theory, the Writers Guild of America awards surprised all when Moonlight and Arrival took best original screenplay and best adapted screenplay, respectively.

This weekend, La La Land - a story about two Hollywood hopefuls - will be up for the record number of Oscar nominations.

It meets the number once achieved by Titanic, which won 10 out of 13 during the 1998 ceremony.

And while both of La La Land's lead actors, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, are recognised in the Best Actor categories, Dev could still take one of Lion's five prizes, for Best Supporting Actor.

Dev has come a long way since his TV debut in British teen drama Skins, earning international acclaim for his international breakthrough role in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

He has subsequently starred in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Last Airbender and Chappie.

Of the recognition, he told People: 'The fact that our little movie, that we shot in the middle of nowhere, has made it to the Oscar stage is reason enough for us to be really happy. This has been the most beautiful journey...

'It’s up to the film gods and we are just really enjoying this time. But whenever I think it’s just a week away, my heart rate rises a little bit.'

Former awards show underdog Dev could be set for a big win since his odds have been slashed by bookies in the run-up to the Oscars.

Pre BAFTA Dev was 20/1 to win the Oscar, but he is now 6/1, according to William Hill.

Even when they try and keep things under wraps, the loves and lives of the famous are constantly in the public eye.

Particularly while waiting for their careers to take off, it's not surprising that many young actors and singers want to play the field.

And with a heavy influx of castings, glittering industry parties and photo shoots, it's inevitable that the paths of aspiring stars will cross, leading to temporary, if unlikely, ties.

But whether it's through time passing or being upstaged by a bigger relationship, some celebrity couples manage to slip under the radar.

Many of these stars, who have since become Hollywood legends, have moved on and are enjoying long-term relationships, so it's no wonder that they might want to sweep their dating history under the carpet.

Sometimes the celebrities in question were involved in serious relationships, with Sandra Bullock dating Ryan Gosling, 16 years her junior, for a year.

But more often than not, unlikely couplings led to awkward one-date excursions, as was the case between Christian Bale and Drew Barrymore.

Jamie Dornan has been elevated to hunk status due to his career-making stint as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Mischa Barton found her fame a few years earlier as Marissa Cooper in drama series, The OC.

And once upon a time, the pair were nearly an item.

The pair were spotted out and about on various dates in London in 2007

At the height of Barton's fame in 2007 and back when Dornan was just starting out, the pair were spotted out and about on various dates in London.

Fast forward to 2015 and 33-year-old Dornan has been married to Brit actress Amelia Warner for two years and they share a 17-month daughter together.

Mischa Barton, 29, split with actor Sebastian Knapp back in 2013 and is currently not linked to anyone.

SANDRA BULLOCK & RYAN GOSLING

When Sandra Bullock, 50, met Ryan Gosling, 34, in 2002, both were established actors in their own right, although Sandra's star shone substantially brighter than Ryan's at that point.

The pair started dating after meeting on the set the thriller Murder By Numbers.

Pre-Notebook fame, Gosling dated Bullock for a year and the relationship set tongues wagging due to the fact that Bullock was 16 years Gosling's senior.

Oscar-winner Bullock has since been unlucky in love, divorcing her husband of five years, 46-year-old TV personality Jesse James when several women came out of the woodwork to reveal they’d had secret affairs with him.

But Gosling has had a relatively smooth ride - the 34-year-old heartthrob had a daughter with girlfriend of nearly four years Eva Mendes, 41, in September of last year.

CAMERON DIAZ & ROBBIE WILLIAMS

Cheeky pair: Cameron Diaz and Robbie Williams were rumoured to be dating in the summer of 2003

While cheeky chappie singer Robbie Williams, 41, and actress Cameron Diaz, 42, may seem worlds apart, at one point, the pair were rumoured to have been dating in the summer of 2003.

The two were spotted out and about during the former Take That star's time in America, but soon parted ways.

No hard feelings though; Cameron Diaz went on to marry Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, 36, in January of last year.

Robbie married Turkish-American actress Ayda Field back in 2010 and the pair have two children together.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE & FERGIE

It's been more than a decade since Justin Timberlake, 34, ended the his famous relationship with fellow Mickey Mouse Club member, Britney Spears, 33, but it's one that the public are unwilling to forget.

Lurking in the shadows of their prominent three-year relationship, was a lesser-known and much shorter tie, with none other than Black Eyed Pea's songstress, Fergie.

Back in 1996, when Timberlake's pop career was just taking off with leather-toting boy band, NSYNC, he briefly dated Fergie, at which point she was in female trio, Wild Orchid.

The relationship was controversial due to the couple's age gap.

At the time of their romance, Fergie was 23 and Timberlake only 16, and she has since said it wasn't serious.

Since splitting, Fergie has married 42-year-old actor Josh Duhamel and the couple share one son, while Timberlake married Jessica Biel in 2012 and the pair welcomed their first child in April this year.

Unlikely pair: Rihanna and Shia LaBeouf went on one date in 2007, but lacked a spark

While they seem like the most unlikely pair, Tranformer's actor Shia LaBeouf has previously recalled how he went on a dinner date with Rihanna back in 2007.

In an interview with Playboy, 29-year-old LaBeouf explained how he was first contacted by the 27-year-old We Found Love songstress.

The couple then went out for a meal together but failed to find much in common.

JOSH HUTCHERSON & VANESSA HUDGENS

American actor Josh Hutcherson, 22, has enjoyed the perks of success since propelling to fame in the film adaptations of the Hunger Games, and is now linked to Spanish actress, Claudia Traisac.

But once upon a time, Hutcherson enjoyed a brief romance with High School Musical star, Vanessa Hudgens, 26.

The pair dated back in 2011, while filming Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in Hawaii.

Unlikely as it seems, in 2012, Batman actor Christian Bale revealed that he once dated Drew Barrymore, 40 - back when they were both teen stars.

But 41-year-old Bale explained to GQ Australia how after one date, the chemistry simply wasn't there.

He recalled: 'We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it. She never called again.'

At the time, Drew Barrymore had enjoyed success as a child star, famously appearing as a fresh-faced four-year-old in ET, and would have certainly been more famous than Bale - who didn't get his big break until American Psycho in 2000.

Bale has been married to makeup artist Sibi Blazic, 45, for 15 years. She is also the mother of their two children.

Barrymore has had a bumpier ride, having been married three times.

But she has been happily married to art consultant Will Kopelman, since 2012 - with whom she has two kids.

ASHTON KUTCHER & JANUARY JONES

Not long ago, 37-year-old Ashton Kutcher started a family with actress Mila Kunis, 31.

The couple met 17 years earlier as co-stars on sitcom That '70s Show, but only started dating in April 2012,and the couple are now married.

But back in 1998, Kutcher dated Mad Men beauty, January Jones for a good three years.

In a 2009 interview with GQ, 37-year-old Jones recalled how her relationship with Kutcher wasn't necessarily a positive influence on her career.

She explained: 'He was not supportive of my acting. He was like, 'I don't think you're going to be good at this.' So, f*** you!'

Jones, who is currently single, is mother to her three-year-old son, Xander, but has remained tight-lipped about the identity of the father, choosing to raise him alone.

Forget living in a youth-obsessed society, when it comes to looking good, celebrities in their 30s are our ultimate 'fitspiration'.

Beyonce, 33, Nicole Scherzinger, 36, Madonna, 56, and Elle Macpherson, 50, stole the top spots in a survey of fittest body parts, beating 20-somethings like Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, 27, Kate Upton, 22, and Millie Mackintosh, 24, to the top places.

The research shows our focus has shifted from younger celebrities to that of older more ‘realistic’ and ‘attainable’ stars.

In the survey by BodyBuilding Warehouse, Michelle Keegan, 27, was the only celebrity aged under 30 to be voted number one by women, beating curvy beauties Kelly Brook and Kate Upton to the crown for 'best breasts'.

Meanwhile, Nicole Scherzinger's Pussycat Dolls-honed abs beat those belonging to Beyonce, Rihanna and Cheryl Cole, snatching the title of women's best celebrity stomach.

Supermodel Elle 'The Body' Macpherson's may be 50 but her pins were strides ahead of lingerie range rival Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, model Miranda Kerr and former Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh.

Beyonce's bottom came up number one, with Kylie Minogue, Pippa Middleton and Rihanna tailing behind.

Super-fit 56-year-old Madonna's infamously ripped biceps beat those of Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, to be crowned best arms.

This trend for admiring older stars was also reflected in the men's lists, which were topped by Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Gosling and Cristiano Ronaldo.

When it comes to arms, it seems size is everything, as men rated the bulging biceps of 46-year-old G.I. Joe star and former wrestler, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson number one.

Will Smith and True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello lost out to Hollywood 34-year-old hearthrob, Ryan Gosling's chiselled chest, which stole the top spot.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old rapper 50 Cent's washboard abs successfully fended off competition from Daniel Craig, 46, and supermodel David Gandy, 34, to be crowned number one.

Kieran Fisher, sports nutrition expert and founder of BodyBuilding Warehouse, said: 'It's great to see so many people being inspired by celebrity bodies of all ages – rather than just those in their teens or 20s.

'The common perception is that it is near impossible once you are past 30 to achieve fitness goals.

'it is a fact that muscle mass does diminish with age, it is by no means impossible to build and maintain a fit body through targeted workouts and good nutrition.

'These results will show people that good muscle tone and definition can be achieved, whatever their age – and will hopefully inspire a wider range of people to reach for their fitness goals.'
