But Penelope Cruz was well and truly back on the red carpet with a bang as she pulled out all the sartorial stops at a special screening of her new movie, The Counselor, at London's Odeon West End on Thursday night.

The 39-year-old actress opted for a look of full-on gothic glamour as she showed off her awe-inspiring hourglass figure in a striking full-length lace gown.

Clinging to every curve, the breathtaking dress featured an unusual black and gold lace overlay with elongated sleeves, providing an attractive contrast against the simple black bandeau underneath.

Positively smouldering as she hit the red carpet in the capital, the Oscar-winning actress teamed her incredible gown with a simple gold clutch bag and a dazzling sapphire and diamond ring.

The Spanish beauty appeared to have opted for a subtle ombre look, having dyed the lower section of her raven locks a lighter shade - and wore her tumbling curls swept to the side in a dramatic cascade.

Penelope completed her look with stunning bronze eye make-up to accentuate her chocolate brown eyes and a slick of simple nude lipstick.

While the actress stars in The Counselor alongside off-screen husband Javier Bardem, the pair didn't pose together on the red carpet.

Instead, the Oscar-winning actor larked around with co-star Michael Fassbender - who plays Penelope's fiance in the upcoming thriller - as they posed for photographs.

Both men looked every inch the dapper dude for their big moment, with both suited and booted to perfection in immaculately tailored two-pieces as they embraced in front of the cameras.

Also commanding attention on the red carpet was model Amber Anderson, who looked lovely in a monochrome minidress with a pretty collar and embellishment detailing.

Meanwhile, director Ridley Scott arrived at the screening with actress Giannina Facio on his arm, with the Costa Rican beauty looking positively incredible in a tight-fitting scarlet midi-dress with a daring plunging neckline.

The Counselor, directed by Oscar winner Scott, tells the tale of a lawyer (Fassbender) who finds himself over his head when he delves into the dark world of drug trafficking.

Thriller: The Counselor, directed by Oscar winner Scott, tells the tale of a lawyer (Fassbender) who finds himself over his head when he delves into the dark world of drug trafficking

All together now: Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Ridley Scott and Javier Bardem all posed for a snap together before heading inside the screening

Cruz takes on the role of his naive fiance Laura, while Bardem plays tough-talking drug dealer Reiner.

Also starrring the likes of Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz, the movie marks the first on-screen reunion between husband-and-wife Penelope and Javier since 2008's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

It also reunites Brad with Ridley for the first time since 1991's cult classic Thelma & Louise and sees leading ladies Cruz and Diaz come together once again after their triumph in 2001 hit Vanilla Sky.

The Counselor is scheduled for release in the US on October 25, and in the UK on November 15.

Being an early morning TV presenter and getting up for work at 3am means getting dressed when you're probably still half asleep.

(Maybe even - if you have a sleeping husband and three small children you don't want to wake - in the dark.)

So it's little wonder BBC Breakfast star Susanna Reid, 42, slipped up on the wardrobe front by putting on her Marks & Spencer dress the wrong way round.

Appearing alongside co-host Bill Turnbull, 57 - who had managed to put his suit on the right way round - the usually well-turned-out mother-of-three didn't notice her fashion faux pas until her three-hour appearance in front of the cameras was over yesterday morning.

And after someone pointed that her £39.50 shift dress was back-to-front, Reid took to Twitter to admit her error and ask viewers: 'Just realised my dress is on back-to-front. Why didn't you tell me?' Tunbull immediately replied with: 'And spoil the fun?'

But Reid is not the first celebrity to have fallen victim to a confusing neckline.

Actresses including Angelina Jolie, Sigourney Weaver and Amanda Seyfriend have appeared at red carpet events with their gowns on backwards, though their agents and stylists often comment afterwards that their slip-ups were completely intentional.

Even the Duchess of Cambridge has worn the occasional coat belt upside down.

In January this year, American actress Sigourney Weaver attended the SAG awards in an ill-fitting Lanvin dress worn the wrong way round.

Styleite wrote: 'The front of the dress (when worn correctly, we mean) features a deep cross-over v-neck, with a faux waist-belt detail and an asymmetrical hem, and the back is a plain high neckline with no detailing.

'On the red carpet, it appears that Weaver wore the top part of the dress backwards, but kept the bottom half as is.'

It suggested that maybe the label's designer, Alber Elbaz, customized the floor-length design so Ms Weaver, 63, could wear it in a different way.

However the black satin number failed to impress many fashion critics.

The Gloss bluntly wrote: 'Sigourney Weaver’s Lanvin looked like a beautifully cut trashbag.'

While the Red Carpet Fashion Awards added: 'Maybe she thought the plunge was too deep so she opted for a sexy back instead.she opted for a sexy back instead.'

In 2011 American X-Factor judge Demi Lovato wore a raspberry Roland Mouret dress backwards to the Latin Grammy Awards, offering photographers a plunging neckline meant, in fact, to be a risque backline.

2010 Amanda Seyfried turned up at the premiere for Mother And Child in an unusual number by BodyAmr worn back-to-front, with the purple satin trimmed back and zip at the front and the photo-print design at the back.

And in 2009, Angelina Jolie purposefully turned around her Max Azria dress for the Screen Actors Guild Awards to expose her tattooed back rather than her chest with its plunging neckline.

And in a less dramatic fashion faux pas, the Duchess of Cambridge wore the slimline belt of a £980 MaxMara wool coat upside down when she visited Cambridge with her husband in November.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the loops of the skinny bow appeared underneath the belt.

The plastic bow belt comes included with the dry-clean only coat but is obviously not attached, otherwise it might have saved style icon Kate some blushes.

The cream of the fashion world has descended on Paris for Haute Couture week - and Hollywood was definitely represented on Monday as style royalty Jessica Alba and Chloe Moretz arrived.

Teenager and Carrie star Chloe, 15, showed off a fashion knowledge beyond her years in her dark suit with snappy zip detail.

And both accessorised by wearing the same elasticated shoe boots, showing their unique taste yet similar taste in footwear.

Kick-Ass star Chloe left her hotel clutching an umbrella to keep her new hairstyle sheltered from the Parisian rain.

Chloe opted for a simple navy two-piece and a pair of quirky sunglasses, despite the snowy and rainy weather conditions.

While Jessica looked stunning in her tailored black fur coat, leather gloves and dark tights.

Mother-of-two Jessica, 31, has been enjoying her break ion the city, tweeting various pictures of Paris in the snow and sharing her gastronomic feasts, including a rather indulgent caviar dish.

Similarly Chloe has been sharing snaps of Paris in the snow as she travelled around the city with her nurse mum, Teri.

And it seems the teenager is very excited about her foray into fashion.

Just before she left LA, the star tweeted: 'Here we go @teridukemoretz Paris time!!!! #Dior #HauteCouture #Fashion week.'

Flying out the teenager was also seen carrying not one, but two designer bags, from Louis Vuitton and Prada - another marked difference from other girls her age.

She also accessorised her look with a grey tasselled scarf and vintage sunglasses.

Although Jessica was spotted at the presentation of Christian Dior Spring Summer 2013 Haute Couture fashion collection, Chloe was just spotted leaving her hotel, perhaps unsure where the day's fashion would take her.

The last of five frenetic days of collections saw the City of Light turn into the city of frost, with snow blanketing the city white and reducing its grand buildings and monuments to the purest of forms and shapes.

In the week's major collections, Dior Homme continued the on-trend military style, looking forward with a futurist aesthetic that had a fair amount of mileage in other shows, too.

Large hats and trilbies cropped up at John Galliano and a classy show from Berluti; while the trend for pants was to be cut to expose the boot as seen in Carven and Juun J.
