She's best-known for her death-defying work as a fearless professional driver.

But Danica Patrick shocked fans by going from racing to racy as she took to the stage at the 2013 American Country Awards in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

Shedding her driving gear in favour of a decidedly sexier ensemble, the 31-year-old sportswoman positively stunned as she showed off her impeccable figure in a skimpy sequin showgirl one-piece.

Showcasing her washboard abs and toned pins in all their glory, the sparkling monokini was cutaway at the middle and featured a fuchsia and tangerine bottom half that was cut eye-wateringly high.

Hosting the star-studded ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre, the racing driver teamed her dazzling ensemble with an attention-grabbing headpiece and matching feathered stole in brght pink and orange.

Danica completed her showgirl look with white gloves and silver dancing shoes, while ensuring she was positively dripping in diamonds.

The sports star truly embraced her Sin City surroundings with her playful outfit, strutting her stuff with vigour as she took to the stage in her Vegas costume.

And as well as showing off her fabulous figure, the professional motorist demonstrated her sense of humour as she poked fun at herself ahead of her live routine.

She said: 'The good thing about me is that there's no chance of a wardrobe malfunction because there's not much to malfunction! I hope that little bit didn't fall flat.'

Danica - who was presenting the awards alongside country music star Trace Adkins - is no stranger to showing off her envy-inducing figure, having posed for Sports Illustrated in skimpy swinsuits on two separate occasions.

The stunning star opted for a Vegas-inspired ensemble as she hit the red carpet earlier in the evening, opting for a striking metallic sequin gown, featuring a plunging neckline and pretty tassle detailing.

Danica then tickled the audience pink by switching traditional work ensembles with her co-host Trace, with him donning a racing suit and her opting for a white dress and stetson in the style of a country music star.

The driver later underwent two more costume changes, showing off her incredible figure in a form-fitting cobalt number and a dramatic black and gold sequin midi-dress.

Blake Shelton scooped three of the top gongs at the ceremony, but the artist wasn’t there to pick them up and was busy at the semi-finals of The Voice, which saw his contestant Cole Vosbury get knocked out just shy of next week’s finals.

But no doubt even though he couldn’t be at the event, Blake would have been delighted to win Best Single By A Male Artist, Best Music Video By A Male Artist and Album Of The Year.

His wife Miranda Lambert, who won Best Female Artist Of The Year, and Carrie Underwood, who scooped the prize for Best Music Video By A Female Artist, also snubbed the event.

Fortunately, Florida Georgia Line, who were the biggest winners of the night, did make an appearance.

The band, consisting of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, won a whopping six awards during the evening, with four wins for their single Cruise.

Her approach to the big split from Justin Bieber has been sanguine.

And if you're looking for an example of girl power in these simpering times, Selena Gomez is your woman having failed to crumble up and cry at saying goodbye to the teen sensation of a generation.

Instead, she's been focusing on her own career and after taking a detour from the Disney princess route to err on the wild side in Spring Breakers, Selena Gomez returned to her roots to be crowned Favourite Actress at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

The Year of Selena: Ms Gomez was chuffed to be named Favourite Actress of the Year at the Kids' Choice Awards despite her show, The Wizards of Waverly Place having ended

And she was in good company, as winning big beside her were two modern day celebrity heroines who have also had quite a year of drama.

One, the elegant looking Kristen Stewart, 22, was considered to be a villain after she was rumbled having a fling with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

But since that nadir last summer, and her reconciliation with Robert Pattinson, the Twilight fans have once again clasped Stewart - who looked lovely in Osman Yousefzada and black Christian Louboutin pumps - to their bosom.

And she looked happy and full of fun on Saturday when she accepted the award for Favourite Actress, vindication indeed that she's still a fan favourite.

'Twilight fans have been the best ever. So thanks guys for honouring me in this way,' said Stewart.

Stewart - who is often accused of being pofaced and miserable - even jumped into a sliming with Sandra Bullock and Neil Patrick Harris - when she wasn't required to face in the indignity, her cute short suit never quite recovered.

Also putting a year of trials and tribulations in the romantic department behind her was Katy Perry, 28, who has just split from John Mayer after several months.

Last year also saw her divorce her British funnyman husband Russell Brand, so it's been a rough old time for the Firework singer.

But the young fans seem to love these independent women, none of the victims or even prone to airing their dirty linen via song lyrics.

'I love the kids,' Katy told the audience after accepting her gong for Favourite Female singer. 'I think it's the coolest award. I love you kids. Stay in school and stay safe.'

Selena, 20, looked fittingly betwixt the worlds of childhood and adulthood in an elegant but still girlish combination of an aquamarine diaphanous peplum top and cream shorts, both by Oscar de la Renta.

She completed the look with Gucci silver sandals and carried a Diane Von Furstenburg bag.

Chatting after she picked up her award, Selena said this meant the most to her as it was voted for by the children and added: 'It's such a good chance to let loose.'

She also added that she wanted to thank her friends and family, and admitted that she was stoked she was recognised now that her Disney show, the Wizards of Waverly Place is now off the air.

'I never expected it,' she exclaimed, telling the fans: 'This is for you.'

Pitbull and Christina Aguilera kicked off the 26th annual awards and slime fest with their duet Feel This Moment.

The pair were joined by young backup dancers who looked dressed like the two singers.

And at the end of the performance, Aguilera pushed a button, covering Pitbull and the dancers in the show's signature green gunge.

Ke$ha was also among the performers, changing out of her blue suit and hat into a fur coat, tiny black shorts and yellow top as she sang her song C'Mon.

Other winners at the viewer-voted ceremony honouring kids' favourites in film, music, sports and TV included Adam Sandler as favourite voice from an animated movie for Hotel Transylvania, race car driver Danica Patrick as favourite female athlete and The Hunger Games as favourite movie and book.

Johnny Depp made a surprise performance after scooping the Favourite Movie actor gong for his role in Dark Shadows.

'I'm truly honoured and humbled to get this award,' the 49-year-old actor told the audience. 'You're the future.'

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson also got the chance to push the slime button, managing to cover Nick Cannon and Josh Duhumel in goop after accepting his award for Best Male Buttkicker.

'From the bottom of my heart. I want to give something back top all of you,' Johnson told the audience before promising slime. 'I've got a very big surprise for everybody.'

Transformers star Josh Duhamel served as host of the slime-filled ceremony at University of Southern California's Galen Center.

One of his first acts as host was dumping goop on Los Angeles Lakers player Dwight Howard.

'I guess that's what we call a slime dunk!' Duhamel said.

Perhaps next year’s ceremony should see the awards change to rocket trophies.

The stars on the purple carpet at the 2013 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards took their fashion to another level on Saturday as they attended the annual event in Los Angeles, California.

Jessica Alba – who voices the character of Lena Thackleman in animated movie Escape From Planet Earth – looked out of this world in a silver frock.

The 31-year-old donned a printed piece by Mary Katrantzou, teaming it with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Stella McCartney purse and jewellery by Eddie Borgo.

The brunette pinned back one side of her hair, letting the blonde undertones show as she tossed her tresses in front of her shoulder.

Jessica – who presented on stage with comedian Kevin Hart - wasn’t the only star opting for a metallic look at the children’s ceremony.

Former High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale wore a gorgeous piece by Rafael Cennamo which featured a sliced silhouette shape at the front.

The rest of the 27-year-old’s item was embellished with circular sequins and her bust area lined with mesh.

Ashley – who was at the bash to present a performance by pop star Ke$ha – teamed her piece with Jerome C. Rousseau shoes and a Carla Amorim ring.

Even 15-year-old Bella Thorne got in on the action at the 26th annual event, sporting a peplum metallic dress.

The Shake It Up lead character chose bold neon pink pumps, a neon green handbag with a gold chain that hung to her side and a bright chained necklace that met at the centre with a large bejewelled brooch.

Styled by Marissa Joye, her statement earrings matched her necklace as they peered out of her silky, long locks and famous fringe.

Got the X Factor: Talent show girl band Little Mix each had their own style

Experimenting with even more colour, baby blue pastel nails complemented the cool silver of Bella’s dress.

Winners at the show receive a hollow orange blimp figurine, a logo outline for much of the network's 1984–2009 era, which also functions as a kaleidoscope.

However it seems something like MTV’s moon man could be more apt for the 2013 crowd.

Many of the stars avoided wearing safe hues such as black.

Dancing With the Stars professional Karina Smirnoff wore a scoop back sequin dress with nude heels and Disney actress Zendaya Coleman – who is currently on competing on the show – opted for a multi-colour tie-dye skirt with blue jumper and glitzy collar.

The colour proved to be a popular with little singers Sophia Grace and Rosie wearing stripy blue and white frocks, and Ke$ha fashioning a Willy Wonka style suit.

But much like Stefani Scott, who wore a coral number, she had a problem with her skirt flying in the wind.

The 16-year-old A.N.T. Farm actress wore a Keepsake dress as her film Wreck-It Ralph won Favorite Animated Movie.

Disney star Ryan Newman didn’t fail to get noticed in a neon green frock ad neither did British X Factor 2011 winners Little Mix in their over-the-top ensembles.
