She's been hell bent on transforming her image over the past few years.

But Selena Gomez's latest risque photoshoot for V Magazine has made many fans online uncomfortable - and not just because she's topless.

The 22-year-old's revealing shoot has been branded as reminiscent of Lolita with many fans calling it inappropriate as they believe she has been purposely made to look younger than her years.

The actress and singer's appearance and costuming came under scrutiny on Tuesday, with one fan summing up the general consensus: 'How disturbing is @selenagomez' topless shoot for @vmagazine? 

'She looks like an absolute 12-year-old. What is up with that make up?'

The star poses in nothing but booty shorts as she cups her breasts with her hands while wearing large Eighties-inspired hoop earrings on the cover of the glossy magazine.

The actress and singer's appearance and costuming came under scrutiny, with one fan summing up the general consensus: 'She looks like an absolute 12-year-old. What is up with that make up?'

Selena's brunette curls flow voluminously over her bare torso as a single red polka dot bow - perhaps a nod to her former life as a Disney princess - is clipped to the side of her head. 

The girlish appearance had another commenter on Twitter write: 'Can't tell [if] that Selena Gomez V cover has Lolita written all over it or is it just because she has a baby face?' 

While another wrote: 'Selena Gomez's sexy Lolita V photos are making us a little uncomfortable.'

One commenter simply wrote: 'She looks like a child!' 

One commenter simply stated: 'Ummm,,.this is beyond creepy. Not only does she look 12, they styled her like a 12 year old. The hat and the little bows on her hair while topless, not okay.'

And the criticisms went beyond just gut reactions as some commenters questioned the logic of the star's PR team: 'really uncomfortable viewing... just plain weird... she looks like a child dressing up like a child... i.e. is she meant to be a cowgirl? Just bizarre that anyone in her PR team would look at this and go... "yep good photos"'.

A Twitter feed dedicated to the star called SelenaGomezWatch wrote that the shoot had been unanimously branded as 'disturbing' due to her childish appearance.

Accompanying the controversial shoot was an interview with Selena conducted by her former onscreen tormentor James Franco (Spring Breakers).

When it came to the subject of Justin Bieber things sounded like they were over for the two lovebirds: 'I was 18 years old, and it was my first love. 

'The older I get, I'm guarding certain things more. After being put through the scrutiny, I understand what it is.'

Now Selena Gomez takes the plunge in skin-tight crop top after stepping out in backless dress

She's known for her chic sense of style both on and off the red carpet.

And Selena Gomez was certain to put on her very own fashion show on Saturday as she wore two eye-catching ensembles while in Miami Beach, Florida.

The soon-to-be 22-year-old, her birthday is on July 22, wore a revealing playsuit for the first half of the day before swapping it out for ripped denim and a plunging top.

The star wore her second outfit of the day while being escorted by a security officer as she headed to a departing flight at the Miami airport.

Selena completed her travel ensemble with a black vest as she balanced in suede leather boots.

Earlier in the day she was spotted with Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine as she met up with him on Saturday in Miami Beach, Florida.

For the meeting she sported the aforementioned playsuit, which had the back portion unzipped.

The unzipping appeared to be in response to the summer heat, although the Come & Get It singer did still wear suede ankle boots as she tied her long brunette hair back in a messy knot.

Hiding her highly recognisable face behind a pair of aviator sunglasses, Selena smiled as she kept pace with the director.

The scruffy 41-year-old donned simple blue jeans, a T-shirt, and brightly coloured trainers for the outing.

Selena was previously in Florida, in the town of St. Petersburg, to film Spring Breakers in 2012 and the actress may have connected with Harmony to discuss the upcoming sequel Spring Breakers: The Second Coming.

The new film, however, will not be directed or scripted by Korine to the outrage of fellow Breakers star James Franco.

Taking to his Instagram account to vent his frustration, the 36-year-old highlights that the new project has nothing to do with the original film's director Harmony Korine.

He fumed: 'This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony‘s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel.'

Adding: 'I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’être: to make money off someone else’s creativity.'

'Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without Scorcese and DeNiro‘s consents? Insanity! I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity.'

There have been countless sequels to successful films that do not have any creative input from the makers behind the originals.

Examples include the straight-to-DVD titles such as Mean Girls 2, and the Mila Kunis starring American Psycho II: All American Girl.

But interestingly, Spring Breakers: The Second Coming has been written by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, and is set to be directed by Jonas Akerlund.

Akerlund is known for his groundbreaking musical videos for artists such as The Prodigy and Madonna, and directed the feature film Spun.

The fact that the sequel is being taken on by creative talents such as Welsh and Akerlund, make James Franco's comments all the more scathing.

With her revealing pink cut out swimsuit and provocative pose, Ashley Benson cuts an eye-catching figure in a sizzling new summer photoshoot.

The 24-year-old Pretty Little Liars star leans on her side and rests her other arm - covered in gold jewellery - on her trim legs on the cover of Complex magazine.

In another shot, she adds a vibrant green visor as she seductively purses her lips against a straw dipped into a bottle of soda.

The star uses an accompanying interview with the magazine to set the record straight about some of the more scurrilous media rumours surrounding her. 

'I always get that I’m pregnant. That’s really fun', she jokes. 'Also, apparently I’ve dated every single one of my co-stars. That’s not true, haven’t dated one'.

The star was famously linked to her Spring Breakers co-star James Franco, but is currently dating stylist Ryan Good.

However, despite her blossoming career making her one of Hollywood's 'It girls', the actress said she isn't exactly a wild party goer. 

'I don’t go out,' she tells Complex. 'A typical weekend for me is going to eat with my friends and either having a drink at the restaurant or sitting at home and drinking wine and watching a movie. I don’t like clubs at all.'

Ashley will be seen alongside Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell and Lucy Hale in the fifth season premiere of hit TV show Pretty Little Liars on June 10th.

She is also set to sign on for sequel Spring Breakers sequel The Second Coming with the follow-up film involving the students interacting with an extreme Christian sect trying to convert them.

And for her appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman on Monday night, Selena Gomez once again did not disappoint in the style stakes.

The 20-year-old star raised hemlines to show off her impressive pins in a very short sequin and lace black mini dress.

The tiny attire also feature a nude sheer panelling at the bust with spotted detailing.

Selena has spent weeks promoting her upcoming movie Spring Breakers all over the world.

But over the weekend the young star finally got a respite, and enjoyed a break.

The actress attended an NBA game with her agent on Sunday night, with the pair watching the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 113-102.

She stars in the film from eccentric director Harmony Korine alongside High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens, Pretty Little Liars' Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine.

James Franco also stars in the boozy feature, taking on the role of a ghetto-fabulous drug dealer named Alien who sports corn rows and gold teeth.

'I’ve never been part of a movie I would watch over and over again, and I’m really proud of it,' beamed Selena.

The brunette beauty said her mother was also a 'Harmony fan' and urged her to take the part of Faith.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Selena will headline the Radio Disney Music Awards on April 27 at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre.

And at each one Selena Gomez has debuted another glamorous red carpet look, showing off her new sexy style.

The actress and singer once again set pulses racing as she slipped into an aquamarine dress on Monday.

The unusual pencil dress had a cut-out panel across Selena’s stomach and cut-out sleeves, leaving plenty of skin on show.

But as she has been spotted hitting dance classes with friends recently, it’s no surprise that Selena isn’t shy about flashing her taut tummy.

The 20-year-old was attending a Q&A session as part of the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

The previous day the cast attended the film’s premiere as part of the festival followed by an after-party.

Spring Breakers hits cinemas on March 22.
