Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence stick to classic black and white at Oscars luncheon

Keeping it simple! Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence stick to classic black and white at Oscars luncheon

As if they had emerged from an old movie on the silver screen, Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence embodied the Golden Age of Hollywood in monochromatic black and white.
The actresses were attending the 85th Academy Awards nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills, where they walked the red carpet on Monday.
The women, nominated in the best leading and supporting actress categories, are preparing for the biggest night of awards season, when the Oscars get underway on February 24.

Anne, nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Les Miserables, looked chic in a black sheath dress with draping detail from the hip.
Her cropped hair was swept to the side and lips grazed with a kiss of rose lipstick that accentuated her infectious smile.

The actress wore minimal jewellery - her wedding ring and a jewelled bracelet on the opposite wrist - and completed the look with black stiletto sandals.
Naomi also went for classic black, her dress embellished with a floral pattern that extended in interesting detail over her collar and upper arms.
Her blonde locks were coiffed in large curls around her shoulders and make-up perfectly dusted for daytime.

About 160 nominees attended the lunch, an annual rite leading up to Hollywood's big night.

Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron say they watched 40 years of past ceremonies to finds ways to keep the show moving at a brisk pace.
They say they're looking to nip and tuck what they call little 'pregnant pauses' that can turn the show into a marathon.
Zadan and Meron said on Monday they hope to make room for more fun in the show by squeezing out less-exciting moments.
The 85th annual Oscars airs live February 24 on ABC.

Jennifer Garner is stunning in embellished white dress at Directors Guild Awards + Winners List

Jennifer Garner looks stunning in embellished white dress while Anne Hathaway opts for pretty printed frock at Directors Guild Awards

Her husband is having a banner year with CIA drama Argo.
And while Ben Affleck was nearing the home stretch of Hollywood's awards season on Saturday night, his stunning wife Jennifer Garner was there to support him.
The 40-year-old actress dazzled in a white Antonio Berardi cocktail dress at the Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles.

Jennifer swept her hair back into a chic up-do, and with a lash of red lipstick, Cartier jewellery and silver Ferragamo stilettos, was nothing short of a classic Hollywood beauty.
The mother-of-three wasn't the only one wowing in the style stakes, Anne Hathaway cut a stylish figure in a Valentino gown with an intricate print.
The Les Miserables star's hair is currently growing out after she shaved her head to take on the role of Fantine in the flick.
Ben, who picked up the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film, looked dashing in a tuxedo.

The 40-year-old director was up against Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), Ang Lee (Life of Po) and Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) for the coveted accolade.
Saturday's prize also normally would make Affleck a near shoo-in to win best-director at the February 24 Oscars, since the Directors Guild recipient nearly always goes on to claim the same prize at Hollywood's biggest night.

Kelsey Grammer for the second straight year is hosting the event, held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.
The former Frasier star was joined by his wife, Kayte Walsh, who wore a red cocktail dress, on the red carpet.
The actor opened with a joke for Bigelow, whose Zero Dark Thirty chronicles the capture of terrorist Osama bin Laden - insisting it must be 'torture' for her to wait for the winners to be announced.
The director was styled to jockey with the veterans of Hollywood's boys' club, wearing smart blazer and black trousers to the event.
One of the evening's early winners was Lena Dunham. The 26-year-old Girls creator, producer, writer, director and star took home the prize for Best Comedy Series.

The DGAs typically serve as a final blessing for the film that goes on to win best picture and director at the Academy Awards.
Affleck can go only one-for-two at the Oscars, though. He's up for the film honor at the guild awards, and Argo is looking like the best picture favorite at the Oscars on February 24. But the director's branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences overlooked him and several other key filmmakers for an Oscar directing slot.
The guild and Oscar directing lineups usually match up closely, but they have little in common this season, with only Steven Spielberg for Lincoln and Ang Lee for Life of Pi nominated at both shows.

But Affleck's Argo, in which he also stars as a CIA operative who hatches a bold plan to rescue six Americans during the hostage crisis in Iran, has been sweeping up all the major awards since the Oscar nominations. Argo won best drama and director at the Golden Globes and top film honors from the Screen Actors Guild and the Producers Guild of America.
Many of the same film professionals who vote in guild awards also cast ballots for the Oscars. If Affleck wins at the Directors Guild awards, it will be a strong sign that Argo has the inside track for the best picture Oscar.
Saturday's honours aren't all about Argo, though. Milos Forman (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus) will receive the guild's lifetime achievement award, and the director's union also will hand out prizes for television, documentary and commercials.
