Modern Family's Ariel Winter, 17, reveals she's had a breast reduction after years of 'strapping down' her painful 32F-cups

Ariel Winter has revealed she has undergone breast reduction surgery.

The 17-year-old made the decision to go under the knife after enduring back and neck pain as a result of her 32F-cups.

The Modern Family actress had the procedure on June 4 and is now a 34D, telling Glamour.com: 'I feel like a new person'.

She revealed her bigger bust proved problematic on Modern Family, where she plays young teenager Alex Dunphy. 

She reveals: 'They had to hide it on Modern Family a lot. Big sweaters, [or] strapping me down—which is fine - I understand that it doesn’t fit the character they have in mind. I understand that. But it was difficult to do that every day.' 

Before her breast reduction, even standing for extended periods of time was difficult, she said.

'It was so painful. I had a lot of back problems,' said the sitcom star.

'I really couldn’t stand up straight for a long period of time. It started to hurt so bad that I couldn’t take the pain. My neck was hurting so bad and I actually had some problems with my spine.'

Her curvy figure also made finding age-appropriate clothing for the red carpet 'really hard', the teenager told Glamour.

'I’d have to wear the dress that was super tight and form-fitted everywhere because if I didn’t, it didn’t look good. I didn’t really have an option other than to wear fitted clothes. Everyone would [say], 'Why is she dressing so mature? That’s so inappropriate for her age!'

'It’s hard when you’re a teenage girl and you already have a lot of ridicule and then you pile on more, and it’s kind of…it just gets too much.'

The actress kept her plans hush-hush, but did confide in costars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, who were completely supportive.

'I told Julie because I had talked to her before about my desire to have the surgery. She was really supportive and understanding. 

'I just saw Sofia the other day and she was like, 'Oh my God! I love them! They’re great!' I was like, 'This is hilarious.'

However, Ariel said she didn't discuss the surgery with her estranged mother, Crystal Workman.

The 17-year-old was removed from her mother's home in 2012 amid allegations of abuse, and was legally emancipated from Workman in May after a bitter three-year custody battle.

'She and I don’t speak,' said Ariel, who now leans on her older sister, legal guardian, and 'best friend' Shanelle Gray for support.

'She will find out by reading it and that’s the way that is. And that’s fine.'

'I’m in such a happy place now, and in such a better place now surrounded by people who love me and really support me, and that’s all I need.'

Despite the critics, the teenager said she had the surgery to feel better about herself and wanted to share her story to give other girls confidence.  

'It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health and I think that that can benefit a lot of young girls. 

'I have felt more happy with myself than I ever have,' she told Glamour.

She tweeted about feeling sleepy after catching a red eye to New York City on Tuesday.

But Sarah Hyland didn't look anything less than stunning as she attended The Public Theater's opening night of The Tempest at Delacorte Theater that evening.

The 24-year-old actress showed off her striking features while baring her taut midriff in a navy crop top and matching high-waisted, asymmetrical thigh-high slit skirt.

The Modern Family star paired the chic set with white open-toe ankle-strap stilettos and a black, blue, and white box clutch.

Her chin-length locks were styled in tousled waves, as a wine slick accentuated her full pout.

Prior to her appearance, Sarah tweeted: 'On a red eye and a passenger just got a black eye. Maybe I'll play golden eye? #theflightofdifferenteyecolors.

Just before heading to NYC, Sarah attended her gal pal Jaime King's star-studded baby shower.

On Sunday, Taylor Swift served as party planner for the ultimate bash to celebrate her 36-year-old BFF's pregnancy at the Soho House in West Hollywood.

Sarah is supposedly Jaime's first born, son James', favourite, as according to his mom, the tike showered his 'girlfriend' with gifts.

Jaime previously said on Instagram: 'So far James Knight has given his girlfriend @therealsarahhyland the LARGEST Swarovski diamond ever, a Hayden Lasher Purse, a Yoda backpack, a Olaf pillow and a baby safety plug.... I would testify it's true love. Sorry @domsherwood- better step up your game!'

Sara also warned her boyfriend Dominic Sherwood, that she may have found someone else.

Posting a picture herself and the little boy on Instagram, the actress wrote: 'I saw baby James knight today and he gave me a designer bag and a HUGE @swarovski diamond. Sorry @domsherwood I said yes.'

Sarah and Dom have been dating since the start of the year but have fast fallen in love - even getting matching tattoos.

But there was nothing adolescent about Sarah Hyland's look as she attended Audi and Altuzarra's cocktail party held at Cecconi's in West Hollywood, California on Sunday.

To kick off the 65th Emmy Awards - which airs next Sunday - the 22-year-old starlet bared her cleavage in a mature, yet revealing strapless black Dolce & Gabbana dress.

Reminiscent of lingerie, the knee-length frock featured a bustier top lined with sexy black lace.

Adding to the voluptuous look, Sarah styled her shoulder-length brunette locks in relaxed, loose waves.

But she probably won't have short hair for too much longer, because Sarah tweeted earlier in the day: 'I miss my long hair :( thinkin I'm gonna grow it back.'

Pleased with the turnout, she gave a shout out to her BFF and make-up artist, Allan Avendaño.

But Sofia Vergara kept covered up as she made her way out of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City on Tuesday.

Flashing a grin which spanned from ear-to-ear, the 40-year-old actress clutched at a grey trench coat that she'd buttoned up at the centre.

The comedienne showed hints of a sexy, tight green dress underneath but saved it for her final destination.

The star often wears her long brunette hair voluminous but on this occasion it was glossy and poker straight.

Once she arrived at her awaiting car, Sofia stopped to pose for pictures and sign autographs with her doting fans.

It is believed that the nationality swept the competition thanks to celebrities such as Sofia and Shakira.

Back in New York, however, the stunning beauty decided to keep her stunning figure under wraps.

Also congregating in the Big Apple at the Mandarin Oriental were her Modern Family co-stars.

Broadway actor-turned-television favourite Jesse Tyler Ferguson was spotted with his partner Justin Mikita, with whom he co-founded Tie the Knot - a bow-tie company that advocates for the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans.

Jesse later attended the ABC Upfronts event, along with Ed O'Neill, who also stars in Modern Family.

She may be best known for playing the Dunphy's hilarious oldest daughter Haley on hit show Modern Family but now actress Sarah Hyland couldn't have looked more different to her on-screen character.

Sarah, 22, debuted a new fringe and much lighter, almost auburn, hair.

Trading in her dark brunette locks for a lighter, sleeker look, the 22-year-old actress was barely recognisable at the premiere of her new TV movie, Call Me Crazy, in West Hollywood.

Dressed in a strapless black gown with an embellished corset, Sarah looked a lot more sophisticated than her TV character as she caught up with her co-star Melissa Leo on the red carpet.

The next day, Sarah tweeted: 'Had an amazing night at the #callmecrazy premiere! Such an amazing cast! Thank you @allanface & @glennnutley for makin me look pretty :)' 

It seems like Sarah has been wanting to change her look for a while now, with the actress tweeting late last year: 'I want to cut and dye my hair. #crazythoughtsduringthedark.'

After wanting to change her hair for a months, Sarah went for a drastic new look

The actress has often been placed with fellow dark-haired actress Mila Kunis in the 'separated at  birth' polls, but that's a different story now that Sarah is sporting a much lighter hair colour.

But while it's not the first time Sarah has tried out a fringe, it appears to be the first time she has drastically lightened her naturally dark brown hair.

The actress seems to be jumping on the latest fringe trend - singer LeAnn Rimes recently showed off her new 'bangs', as they're called in the US, and First Lady Michelle Obama also got the world talking when she got the chop.
