Jaimie Alexander brings Lady Sif to Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Marvel and ABC executives are being tight-lipped about what might bring Thor’s ally to Midgard for a crossover episode, but her appearance on the show’s 15th episode appears to be fortuitously timed with the Feb. 25 DVD and Blu-ray release of “Thor: The Dark World.”
Directed by Alan Taylor — who’s next set to step behind the camera to helm a reboot of “The Terminator” starring Emilia Clarke — “Thor: The Dark World” saw Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding god face off against the Dark Elf Malekith to save the Nine Realms from being plunged into eternal night.
The 2013 film now ranks behind “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3″ as the third-highest-grossing release from the studio. It’s grossed more than $205 million at the North American box office.
Arriving last fall as one of the most anticipated new series of the television season, “Agents of S.H.I.EL.D.” hasn’t quite made the spectacular splash some might have expected. The weekly adventures of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team has inspired a hit-and-miss reaction among a core group of fans, though more than 12 million viewers watched the original telecast.
“Avengers” writer-director Joss Whedon, who wrote the pilot for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” with his brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen and directed the show’s first episode, had promised that there would be references on the series to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but he has repeated that the series was designed to engage viewers all on its own.
“It’s not an Easter Egg farm,” Whedon said last summer.
