Rose Byrne stuns in a plunging white blazer as she discusses the perils of being a woman in Hollywood

'It's a beauty pageant': Rose Byrne stuns in a plunging white blazer as she discusses the perils of being a woman in Hollywood

She's best known for playing beautiful and uptight Helen in hit comedy Bridesmaids.
And while Rose Byrne's good looks might have landed her the role that made her a household name, she resents that actresses have to be attractive to succeed in Hollywood, likening the casting process to a 'beauty pageant'.
The Australian star opens up about the difficulties that women face in the movie industry in the latest edition of NET-A-PORTER’s weekly fashion magazine, The Edit.

Referring to a recent conversation she had with her Damages co-star, Glenn Close, Rose told the online publication: 'We talk about how (acting) is a completely different game now.
'There wasn't as much scrutiny and it wasn't such a beauty pageant [before].'
The 35-year-old brunette admits she's struggled to find roles that she can really feel passionate about over the course of her career because the parts available to women aren't as interesting or varied as those available to men.

'It’s hard, especially in this business and especially for women.
'I hate to be a broken record about it, but if I compared my career to my male contemporaries, I feel like they get a lot more opportunities to play lead roles and have a potential story in something, whereas women’s roles as the wife or the mother are limited.
'It’s a harder thing for women to navigate,' she said.

Rose went on to hint she maybe should have thought more carefully about some of the roles she has accepted in the past.
She explained: 'I really admire people who wait, who have the wherewithal to say, "I’m not going to just do anything, I’m going to wait for something I love, whether it’s big or small."
'I think there’s a bravery in that which I have probably lacked.'
