Speaking on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 show, Gemma revealed her love for acting stemmed from performing in plays during her youth.
‘When I walk past the theatre and I see the big old poster and it's got lights going round it like on Broadway, it's so exciting,’ she explained.
Later adding: ‘There are big lights in your face which mean you can't see anyone which is nice, but I love it.
‘It's the best balance because I get to act and be a bit of a rock star.’

During a recent chat with real-life strikers Eileen Pullen and Gwen Davis on the BBC, Gemma admitted to the ladies that she had never heard of their incredible story before the 2010 film adaptation was released.
'I wasn't even born when it happened,' she said. 'So I honestly didn't know much about the story until I saw the film. But ever since, and especially after I was cast in this play, I've done so much research into it all.
'It's a very emotional story and I've come to care a lot about the subject matter - especially as it's still so relevant today.
