Raquel Welch refused to strip off because her father 'would never have approved' of posing nude

Why I have never posed nude, by Raquel Welch: Former Bond girl, 74, refuses to strip off because her father 'would never have approved'

  • Actress asked by Hugh Heffner to pose for Playboy no less than 57 times
  • Eventually did - but pictures were dropped as she refused to go fully nude
  • Reveals now that the reason behind that was the influence of her father
  • Mother-of-two admitted that she regrets putting career ahead of family
She sealed her place as one of the sexiest women in the world after she appeared from behind a rock in a revealing doe-skin bikini in the 1960s film One Million Years BC.
Numerous racy films and photo shoots which capitalised on her alluring beauty followed not long after, along with 57 requests from Playboy to strip off, but Raquel Welch has admitted she has never appeared nude – because she was 'terrified' of upsetting her father.
The actress, now 74, said: 'I am my father's daughter and that's just not the way you behave. You don't do that if you are a certain kind of a woman and that's the kind of woman I was raised to be.

'He was a tough customer. He was complicated. He was very intense. He was a strict father.
'He used to say 'You are not leaving the house dressed like that, what is happening with your hair?' I was terrified of him.
'There were times when I disliked him quite a lot but I wanted to please him. He was the one that was so hard to please and the one I wanted to please.'
Miss Welch, who went on to star in notable films like Bedazzled, Bandolero!, 100 Rifles and Myra Breckinridge, reveals she eventually gave in to the demands of Playboy but insisted there would be no nudity.
Recalling the incident on Piers Morgan's Life Stories to be broadcast tomorrow, she told the host she was summoned by Heffner to his Playboy mansion where he told her that her shoot was boring because 'there's no t*** and there's no ass' resulting in him dropping the pictures.
In a wide-ranging interview with Morgan, Miss Welch, who has married four times and has two sons, disclosed her regrets at putting her career before her children, shed light on her abusive father, attracting the attention of men before she hit her teenage years and confessed her beauty secrets include using a balm normally used on animal teets and facial tape to iron out her wrinkles.

Discussing her tough upbringing and the moment she stood up to her violent and controlling father, Miss Welch said: 'He did not treat my mother very nicely. She was such a wonderful woman. She was lovely and pretty and he was not treating her well. I thought 'Boy, that is not going to happen to me.'
When I stood up to him one day he was stunned. I picked up the poker from the fireplace and I came at him and said 'Don't you ever do that to mother again'. He looked at me as if I was from the moon. He was so shocked. He was cruel and demeaning and my mother was a wonderful beautiful woman.'
Miss Welch confessed that her good looks during childhood, meant she almost got picked up by older men who would offer to drive her.
Admitting she deliberately upstaged the bride at the wedding of her son Damon Welch in 1990 by wearing a skin-tight low cut dress, she no longer thinks she is 'sexy', and instead considers herself 'a faded sex symbol'

She said: 'I started taking ballet classes when I was about seven then as time went on, a couple of years and so, I would take my bus tokens and wait at the bus stop and as cars drove by a lot of men would slow down and offer me a ride, which is a little bit unsettling. But I did get the message that they were interested in me. I got the message that they thought I was yummy.'

Discussing her beauty secrets on the show, due to air tomorrow, she told Piers: 'I use Bag Balm.
'It is used for when they milk cows and sheep. I also use Frownies (facial patches). I am not a drinker or a smoker, I am a yogi and feel good.'

Kim Kardashian poses in a 'furkini' as she plays in the snow for saucy photoshoot by Kanye West

'Baby it's cold outside!' Kim Kardashian poses in a 'furkini' as she plays in the snow for saucy photoshoot by Kanye West

There can't be many buyers out there for a fur bikini.
But Kim Kardashian proved just how useful such a seemingly impractical garment could be as she played in the snow wearing her 'furkini'.
Having seemingly waxed every hair from her sun-kissed body, the beauty avoided frostbite to her most private regions with the help of a thick covering of fur.

However the 34-year-old might want to think about protecting the rest of her shapely figure, with her skimpy furkini surely unable to cope with the task of warming more than a few square inches of her abundant curves.
In a series of Twitter snaps the beauty posed against a snowy backdrop, seductively flipping her long brown locks around her face.
'Baby it's cold outside...' she tweeted, making sure nobody had missed her unusual garment by adding 'furkini!'

Perhaps predictably, it was fashion-obsessed Kanye West who was behind the photoshoot, even taking the pictures himself.
She appeared to be taking inspiration on the odd choice of swimwear from iconic actress Raquel Welch, who originally wowed in a similar two-piece in 1966 movie One Million Years B.C. as a cave girl.
And while Kim's bikini may seem an unusual choice, the reality star's love of fur is well documented.
Indeed so much fur does she wear, that the mother-of-one has been targeted by anti-fur protesters in the past.
However it certainly doesn't seem to have dissuaded her from wearing the controversial fabric.
At least, on this occasion, it didn't take a lot of fur to create her garment.

The photoshoot was released by Kim after she returned from a snowy getaway with her husband and a group of their friends.
Ever the Instagram-lover, she had shared snap after snap from the slopes, as she and Kanye went skiing together.
The brunette beauty also shared a black and white snap of herself with seven old friends.
'Best 24 hr ski trip with 8 couples! All my best friends from childhood, nope they won't let me tag them or name them. I respect their privacy by just posting a pic lol,' she wrote to her more than 28million followers on Instagram.

Perhaps Kim's decision to release her bikini shoot was inspired by Kanye's ex-girlfriend Amber Rose's Instagram.
The hip-hop muse, who dated rapper Kanye for for two years, showed off her one-of-a-kind figure in a series of bikinis this week - the most eye-catching of which was simply carefully placed black string.
It led to her being labelled the new Queen Of Instagram, something Kim is unlikely to be too pleased about.

Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn and Joan Collins among the stars on show in new Terry O'Neill retrospective

Life among the legends: Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn and Joan Collins among the stars on show in new Terry O'Neill retrospective

  • Faye Dunaway, Brigitte Bardot and Rod Stewart also appear
  • O'Neill among the most famous photographers of the 1960s
  • Contemporary David Bailey also has a retrospective this year

From a rare photo of Audrey Hepburn relaxing in the pool to a snap of Rod Stewart cuddling up to a mare and foal, Terry O'Neill's work includes some of the most intimate celebrity portraits ever taken.
Now the British photographer's work is the subject of a new retrospective which charts his 50-year career on the frontline of fame.
Among the stars to appear in the photographs on display at the Little Black Gallery in Chelsea are Frank Sinatra, O'Neill's former wife Faye Dunaway and Brigitte Bardot.

Others featured in the exhibition include Elizabeth Taylor, David Bowie, Joan Collins and iconic 60s model, Jean Shrimpton.
So how did Terry O'Neill, a man whose career began, rather humbly, as a member of the photographic unit at London's Heathrow Airport, become one of the UK's most famous post-war photographers?
Rather wonderfully, it all began with a chance encounter with the then Home Secretary, Rab Butler, who O'Neill snapped as he was nodding off while waiting for a flight.
The photo hit the headlines and O' Neill moved to Fleet Street, where as a staff photographer for the now defunct Daily Sketch, he photographed everyone from Laurence Olivier to the Rolling Stones.
Along with contemporaries, David Bailey, who also has a retrospective this year, Terence Donovan and Brian Duffy, O'Neill had, by the mid-1960s, become one of the UK's most sought-after photographers.

The Queen, Winston Churchill and The Beatles all featured in his work, but it was in Hollywood that he cemented his reputation for portraits that showed the subject in an unexpectedly intimate light.

'I was suddenly being invited onto the film sets of the most beautiful women in the world, from Bardot to Elizabeth Taylor,' he remembers in a memoir penned for his website.
'Rock bands and musicians let me go backstage – in the days when photographers weren’t allowed.
'One minute I’d be on the set of a Bond movie, the next I’d be at a Hollywood studio hanging out with the biggest stars in the world.'
He would later go on to marry one of his subjects, Bonnie and Clyde star Faye Dunaway, at the time one of the most famous women in the world.

Both muse and model, O'Neill's portraits of Dunaway are among his most iconic, with some, including a wonderful shot of her relaxing poolside after winning the Oscar for Network in 1977, featured in the new retrospective.

Speaking about O'Neill and his impact on 20th century photography, Tamara Beckwith, co-founder of The Little Black Gallery and a long-standing friend of the photographer, said:

'It goes without saying that Terry is one of the greatest photographers we have ever produced on these shores.

'It is only fitting that we should celebrate his achievement with an exhibition of his most iconic images.'

The Best of Terry O'Neill opens today at The Little Black Gallery in Chelsea and runs until the 1st March. See thelittleblackgallery.com for more information.
