Agent Melinda May: S.H.I.E.L.D’s BAMF And Why We Love Her

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was off to a rocky start for many viewers, but the thing that keeps it going is the characters, namely Agent Melinda May, played by Ming-Na Wen. So in honor of Melinda May, here’s what makes her a BAMF.
To be honest, all I need is one photoset from Tumblr, but where’s the fun in that?
She pilots “The Bus,” which doesn’t sound cool, but it’s an awesome private plane. She nicknamed the team on the ground in a van “The Short Bus” in episode 4, “Eye Spy.” She also stopped the plane and turned around in just a few easy steps in “The Magical Place.”

Despite her rather serious demeanor, she knows how to have fun. In one episode, she pulls a classic prank on Fitz, without anyone realizing it was her.

Her snark. Really, most of her lines.
Gems like, “I don’t mean to scare you, I just need to use you as bait.” and handing Skye her shirt with a simple,
“Get dressed” help make May a more rounded character, she’s not just the stoic muscle.

She’s a woman of few words, but gets her point across.

She understands that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
When Skye impersonated her, she could have gotten upset, instead, she complimented her wardrobe. I bet she even considered borrowing the jacket, or buying one of her own.

She can offer someone a cookie and end up being scary and hot simultaneously.

She will break her wrist to get out of restraints.
When she did that, I was impressed and left wondering a. how many times she has done that and b. how does she do that. Either way, it was cool and we know that she is not easily detained.

She backs her team up, even if it means going against the higher ups, like Agent Hand. Whether it’s Fitz and Ward, or Coulson, Agent May does what is necessary to save them, even if it means a little white lie. She surprised Ward by getting Skye kicked off the plane in “The Magical Place” but we all knew it was to find Coulson without S.H.I.E.L.D. getting in the way. Agent May is loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D., but more loyal to her team.

She has learned how to deal with her past, without letting it consume her.

And the standard, channeling anger to kick some ass.
She picked up the Asgardian staff that brought out the anger in people with no problem. Her secret? Not repressing the bad memories.

Agent May is a BAMF, who will have you down in seconds or play a prank if the mood strikes. She can break out of restraints, kick some ass, and look great doing it.
