'Old school!' Britney Spears gets nostalgic as she shares steamy topless throwback photo

She'll be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards next week for the first time since 2007.
And on Thursday, Britney Spears tantalised her Instagram followers with a glimpse into the past.
The 34-year-old posted a throwback to the steamy photo she shot for the cover Rolling Stone's 2nd October 2003 issue, on which she appeared nearly nude.

Sandwiched narrowly between two white wooden walls, the ...Baby One More Time singer arched her back, pressing her otherwise naked upper half against a white towel.
The Mississippi native's bottoms consisted solely of a skimpy pair of white, pink-fringed underpants. Her eyes heavily made up under her platinum blonde bangs, she gave a faint, suggestive smile to the camera.
Her caption read simply, 'Old school #tbt,' on a photo that snagged over 100,000 likes in its first three hours online.
Of her eight Rolling Stone covers, the Crossroads actress picked a particularly apt one given her forthcoming VMA gig. Though she's given five performances at the award show, her 2003 one was among her most memorable and controversial.

Spears caused enough of a hullabaloo by sharing the stage with Christina Aguilera, who'd previously been her rival. But she upped the ante when, during her performance, she kissed Madonna on the mouth.
The kiss ignited such a scandal that two months later, when the Toxic singer covered Rolling Stone, her feature therein opened with a three-paragraph exegesis of it.
'I flew to London from New York, and I couldn't believe it was all over the papers there,' she'd told the magazine at the time. 'It's crazy and it's bizarre, but it's also kind of amazing.'
Her present nostalgia for the year she kissed Madonna is understandable, inasmuch as the Material Girl has been on her mind lately.

On Wednesday night, she posted an Instagram video from the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino, where she's in the middle of a residency called Britney: Piece Of Me.
Wearing a slinky white cocktail dress, she danced about what appeared to be a rather swank dressing room with Lexie, her five-year-old niece by her elder brother Bryan Spears.  Madge's 1990 single Vogue played in the background.
The Oops!... I Did It Again singer captioned the video, 'Pre-show warm up! Wishing a happy belated birthday to @madonna!! .'
The Dick Tracy star had celebrated turning 58 on Tuesday with a trip to Havana. Her Cuban festivities, which lasted from Monday to Wednesday, included dashing about in a '57 Chevy convertible and dancing tabletop at a bar in the Plaza Vieja.

The Womanizer singer will tape her VMA spot at Madison Square Garden two days after her ninth album Glory hits the stands.
With rapper G-Eazy in tow, the world's biggest fan of ellipses in song titles will give the first ever live performance of Glory's lead single Make Me....
The song opened last month at No. 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In the 13 days since the music video exploded onto the BritneySpearsVEVO YouTube page, it's racked up over 16 million views.

Her impending appearance at the VMAs caps a storied history with the show. On top of all the performances, including one in which she draped a snake over her shoulders, she's been nominated for their actual prizes 28 times and won five.
In 2011, they bequeathed her their highest honour, the Video Vanguard Award, which this August will be lavished upon Rihanna.
In America, the VMAs will air 28th August at 9:00pm ET/PT. In Britain, they'll air for the first time the next day at 8:00pm on MTV.
