And as such, it's ripe to be parodied and Funny Or Die have done it brilliantly, with Selena Gomez starring as the lust-crazed ingenue at the heart of the narrative.

Luststruck: Selena Gomez lays her eyes upon Carl 'Blue' in the hilarious parody, 'who was this gorgeous guy in front of me?
In the clip, titled 50 Shades of Blue, Gomez is helplessly turned on by an disgusting housepainter played by The League's Nick Kroll, who is brilliantly disdainful.
He tells Selena she is 'kind of husky and thick' so she can carry his paint, picks dirt out of his belly-button in front of her and eventually tells the former Disney beauty that she 'creeps him out.'

But Selena's character is helpless in the face of his oafish ways, and even nibbles on paint samples as Kroll's character tells her: 'My dog sleeps with those.'
Her hilarious voice over runs throughout as she misreads every sign: 'He showed me the inside of his van, how many other girls had he opened up to like this?'
'Why did he give me this gift of paint swatches?' Selena sees something in every meaningless gesture
'I can't believe he showed me the inside of his van': Selena stares into the sacred truck before being loaded down with paint pots
And after he catches her looking at her and sardonically drawls: 'Take a picture, it'll last longer,' she is heard thinking: 'He wants me to document our growing relationship.'
Dubbed 'mommy porn' as it's fanbase centres around married women over 30, the novel tells the story of recent college graduate Anastasia Steele and manipulative billionaire Christian Grey.
Creeped out: Kroll does a brilliant impression of being disgusted by Gomez' attention

Steele is required by Grey to sign a contract allowing him complete control over her life and as she gets to know him, she learns that his sexual tastes involve bondage, domination and sadism, and that childhood abuse left him a deeply damaged individual.
