With seven costume changes, two wig changes, 23 hit singles and one auditorium filled to the rafters with adoring fans, Britney Spears kicked off her Las Vegas residency on Friday evening – in a set that lasted for a mere 90-minutes.
The singer was on stage at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino for the first of 100 lucrative shows at the venue after agreeing to the Piece Of Me residency at the Nevada gambling mecca earlier this year.
Celebrity fans Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Adam Lambert were in attendance as she turned in a comprehensive performance that provided fans with a retrospective look back at her convoluted pop history.

Indeed, Britney gave those in attendance a reminder of her past glories by revisiting some of her more memorable performances – amongst them her choreography at the 2007 Video Music Awards, rehashed and reinvigorated for her performance of Gimme More.
Likewise Circus, during which she put on what amounted to a live version of the single’s Francis Lawrence directed video.
The whistle-stop trip down memory lane was all too brief, with Britney taking less than two hours to sail through a length set list that also included Oops… I Did It Again and One More Time.

Aided by a troupe of athletic backing dancers, Britney’s show included enough theatrics to please those hoping for a spectacle – with a bondage sequence going down particularly well, not least because it involved the participation of handsome presenter Mario Lopez.
Wearing a brunette wig and brandishing a cane, the 32-year-old hit-maker delighted fans by ‘spanking’ the tanned hunk, who was trussed up in a studded harness.
As Britney strode the stage, often in a series of sequined leotards and fishnet tights, young singer Miley Cyrus was sung along from her vantage point in the front row.

The hit-maker was seated next to Britney’s supportive mother Lynn, but it remained empty for much of the night, with Miley dancing, and occasionally twerking, to some of her biggest hits.
Britney’s show will run for two more years at the venue’s 7,000 seat AXIS Theatre and is understood to be one of the more ambitious residencies to be held in Vegas.
The no expense spared attitude was all too evident on Friday during a colourful, vibrant and indulgent show that ended with a performance of Slave 4 U.
‘You like that?’ asked Britney before the spotlight went off, prompting an enormous, appreciate roar from the audience.
