Natalie Portman is thankful her wild days came before social media as she slips into sheer dress for smouldering shoot for Marie Claire

'I got drunk and no one knew': Natalie Portman reveals she's thankful her wild days came before social media as she slips into sheer dress for smouldering shoot

Natalie Portman reveals she indulged her wild side as a youngster in Tinseltown before the dawn of social media, in an interview with Marie Claire.
She may be a rare thing in Hollywood - a former child star who stayed firmly on the tracks - but the 34-year-old insists she had her fun the old fashioned way, without her every waking minute being documented online.
In a new interview for the September issue of the magazine, she explains: ‘I was in that lucky window: there was no Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I went out and got drunk with my friends and no one knew.’

She may have had her fun in the past, but Natalie - who picked up an Oscar for her dramatic turn in 2010's Black Swan - is serious when it comes to the gender pay gap in the film industry.
The brunette beauty adds: 'There is an outrageous discrepancy between men and women in Hollywood. Titanic is a huge hit and Leonardo DiCaprio immediately goes to $20million per movie and Kate Winslet doesn’t. But that feels totally like it’s changing.
'Young women like Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart – they’re the stars now. I don’t even know who the guys are who are their age.’
As for her own career, the mother-of-one admits she never stresses if the phone calls slow down for a while.

‘I don’t get panicky, I know the waves – sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes it’s wild,' she explained. 'I feel like I’ve done so much, it allows me to try new things, like directing.
'I can follow my own curiosity. I’ve been doing this long enough to see that my path is my own. I’m not in a race with anyone.’
One topic that does incite worry in the actress is anti-Semitism in Paris, the city she has made her home after marrying French dancer Benjamin Millepied.
She says: ‘I think it’s real, it exists. Hatred exists in many forms and in many places and it’s important to be aware of it.
'If you can take something positive from it, it allows us to have more empathy to others who are experiencing it.’
