Winona Ryder on the cover of Interview magazine says 'I was told I wasn't pretty enough'

'I was told I wasn't pretty enough,' says Winona Ryder of her youth as she STUNS on the cover of Interview magazine

She's considered one of Hollywood's most ravishing brunettes.
But earlier in her acting career, Winona Ryder doubted her looks, as she received negative feedback from others in the industry.
'I was in the middle of auditioning, and I was mid-sentence when the casting director said, "Listen, kid. You should not be an actress. You are not pretty enough. You should go back to wherever you came from and you should go to school. You don't have it,' the 41-year-old actress explained in the May issue of Interview magazine.

'She was very blunt—I honestly think that she thought she was doing me a favor,' Winona added.
'I was around 15 or 16. But it's funny—and this is a testament to my parents and how they raised me— I wasn't crushed. They had always instilled in me that it was way cooler to be an individual and to be unique and that you don't want to blend in.'
Her leading role as Veronica - of 'the in crowd' - in the 80s hit Heathers is part of what fuelled the A-list actress' career.
She just 'had to convince them' that she could play the part of the gorgeous girl.

'But I've always sort of assumed that it wasn't until Mermaids [1990] or Dracula that people thought I was pretty,' the Beetlejuice star said, explaining how she was 'unusual looking' and not considered a true 'beauty' of that era.
It's hard to imagine the truth in these words, as Ryder looks to be nothing less than perfection on the cover of Interview.
Her porcelain skin appears flawless, contrasting against the black cut-out dress that hugged her slender figure.

She's wearing a deep shade of wine on her pout, accentuating her full lips, as her big eyes pop with a touch of eyeliner and mascara.
Ryder has features to-die-for, including thick eye-brows that stand out beneath the magazine's header.
As she seduces the camera, the star is wearing a pair of sheer black gloves on her hands, accessorized with a jewelled bracelet, showing her elegant side.

Opting for a less Gothic look, her lips are covered with a bright scarlet shade, complimenting the shimmery red strands in her head of hair.
