Katarina Johnson-Thompson wins British long jump title with outdoor personal best

Katarina Johnson-Thompson wins British long jump title with outdoor personal best

Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson won the long jump in an outdoor personal best of 6.81m to give herself three different options for the European Championships.
The 21-year-old from Liverpool, who leaped the same distance on the way to silver at the World Indoor Championships in March, is eligible for the heptathlon, long jump and high jump in Zurich.
She is doing a heptathlon at the Commonwealth Games in July and she revealed she was therefore 'leaning towards' doing the long jump at the Europeans.

William Sharman won the 110m hurdles title in a windy 13.18, while Asha Philip won the women's 100m crown in 11.11, the time also aided by an illegal tailwind.
The British Championships double as the trials for the Europeans, with the top-two finishers in each event sealing their place on the team, provided they have the required standard.
Martyn Rooney did just that by claiming the 400m crown for the fifth time, edging out Conrad Williams down the home straight to win in 45.78 before insisting there was much more to come.
He said: 'That run was poor, I'm running at 80/90 per cent at the moment and I picked up a niggle in Ostrava last week. A lesser athlete would have pulled out, but it was important to me to win the British title.'
Eilidh Child, Scotland's Commonwealth Games hope, won the 400m hurdles title in 55.58 ahead of Meghan Beesley, with both booking their spots on the team for Zurich.
Child said: 'I'm absolutely delighted, I think everyone thought I was the favourite because (the injured) Perri (Shakes-Drayton) isn't here, but Meghan has been a rival of mine since we were young so it was never going to be easy.'

Twenty-year-old Emelia Gorecka pipped 40-year-old mother-of-two Jo Pavey to the 5,000m title, winning by just a quarter of a second in 15:40.65, with both sealing their European Championship places.
Lynsey Sharp, who will defend her European title in Zurich, claimed a dominant 800m victory in 2:01.40, with British number one Jessica Judd fading to fourth.
Edged out: It wasn't all about the veterans as Emelia Gorecka, 20, just beat Jo Pavey, 40, in the 5,000m
