A behind the scenes shot of Vader and Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, from Return of the Jedi was also a hit with followers.
Colin Cantwell's Star Destroyer concept model for A New Hope from the film's archives was the final picture to be shared.

Star Wars fans were no doubt rejoicing after the first photo of Star Wars Episode VII director JJ Abrams alongside classic character R2-D2 emerged online last month.
The sci-fi favourite's appearance next to the veteran robot confirmed his plan to return to the Star Wars saga after Abrams's Bad Robot production company posted the image on Twitter.

Abrams has been drafted in to pen a script with Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan.
The picture was accompanied by a tweet that read: 'Hi from the workshop! #StarWarsVII,' as fans finally got a glimpse at pre-production plans for the next film in the franchise.
Actor Kenny Baker played R2-D2, while Ben Burtt is credited with making the robot's iconic noises and squeaks. Burtt also created Darth Vader's heavy breathing.
The astromech droid has appeared in all six of the motion picture series since its inception in 1977.

Disney is currently searching for actors in video casting auditions online, after completing open auditions in London, Bristol, Dublin and Glasgow.
Bosses at Disney are keen to cash in on the asset they attained after forking out $4.06 billion to buy Lucasfilm last year.
Previously Oscar winning Toy Story 3 hack Michael Arndt had been on board to produce a script based on treatments he had drafted.
Explaining the switch Abrams told Deadline: 'It became clear that given the time frame and given the process and the way the thing was going that working with Larry in this way was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be.
'Working with Larry Kasdan, especially on a Star Wars movie is kind of unbeatable'

The bespectacled director also gave faint praise to Arndt, saying: 'Working with Michael was a wonderful experience and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of his or adore him more. He’s a wonderful guy and was incredibly helpful in the process.'
Fans will no doubt be excited at the news, given 47-year-old JJ has penned films such as Super 8 and Mel Gibson vehicle Forever Young, not to mention TV hit Lost.
But nerds will be even more thrilled at the news about Kasdan, as his previous entry in the series is the best regarded of all of the films.
Disney will be keen to get a big return on their investment, especially given how their own recent productions John Carter and The Lone Ranger have been spectacular box office disasters.
