It's morphin' time! Power Rangers set for a new live-action movie franchise

The Power Rangers first hit our small screens in 1993 and the original series ending in 1996 only marked the beginning of many incarnations of the franchise.
But now the original and arguably still the best, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers are about to make a comeback.
It has been announced that the series will be rebooted into a live-action movie franchise.

Lionsgate is teaming up with Saban Brands for the venture and its CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed the exciting news in a statement.
‘We’re thrilled to be partnering with Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise,’ he said.
‘The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever.’

As yet no actors or directors have been tapped to be a part of the project, although Deadline reports that a new group of young men and women will be cast.
It’s an interesting decision to bring back the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers instead of turning the latest version, Megaforce, into a movie – but no doubt will prove a popular one.
Members of the original gang, as well as some who had been replaced, previously starred in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie, while a second film, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie was released in 1997.
New recruits: Most of the gang had been replaced in time for the 1997 movie Turbo, aside from Red Turbo Ranger, who was Jason David Frank's former Green and White Ranger

Fans of the franchise will recall how the Mighty Morphin’ incarnation featured Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink and Green Rangers – with the Green Ranger eventually turning into a White one when his powers ran dry.
The series followed a group of high school students in the fictional town of Angel Grove, California, who became a fighting force with machines called Zords, which are essentially robotic prehistoric animals and can form one Megazord.
Reviving children’s shows from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s and turning them into movies appears to be a popular move at the moment, with Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film hitting cinemas in August.
Jem And The Holograms is also being turned into a live-action movie, which is currently scheduled for a 2016 release.
