The new Godzilla film reboots the classic Japanese franchise, and is said to retell the origin of the creature in contemporary times as a 'terrifying force of nature.'
The reboot begins with a nuclear-plant accident in Japan, similar to the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
Writer Max Borenstein said: 'I think the decision was, if the first film could be made nine years after both atomic bombs and speak to them directly—and made the same year that a hydrogen bomb irradiated Japanese fishermen and caused a great scandal and a loss of life—if they can use a monster metaphor to get at those very dark truths of the moment, then we can do the same thing.'
