Kirsten voluntarily checked herself into the Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah when she was 27-years-old for depression amid rumours of drug and alcohol abuse.
'What people expect of an actor is totally ridiculous,' she told the publication.
'It's unfair that an artist is expected to speak really well in public and have skin tough enough to withstand sometimes really hurtful criticism, but also, in order to do the job, be really sensitive and in touch with their feelings.'
Adding: 'So all you can do is be yourself - just be who the hell you are.'

Dunst made her film debut in the Woody Allen-directed New York Stories in 1983, and went on to find much success in 1994's Interview With The Vampire opposite Brad Pitt.
Years later she would book over 30 films including her most notable movies Marie Antoinette and Spider-Man, her first superhero franchise as major love interest Mary Jane Watson.
'I know some actresses who are better at it,' she said of other child actors. 'Dakota Fanning reminds me a lot of myself, but she's wiser that I was at her age.'
Now she is set to make her first major TV role in the upcoming second season of FX's Fargo.
'TV is a lot harder than film. A lot harder,' Kirsten revealed.
From child acting to a storied career: 'I know some actresses who are better at it,' she said of other child actors. 'Dakota Fanning reminds me a lot of myself, but she's wiser that I was at her age'
'When I got the part, my friend Lizzy [Caplan], who is on Masters of Sex, said, "Be sure to get B12 shots to get you through the week." I was like, "Really? That sounds very dramatic, Lizzy.'"
'By the third week I was all over the B12. It was one of the best roles I've ever played - the writing is spectacular - but by the end I was tapped out.'
Fargo is slated for the fall lineup with films like Woodshock and Midnight Special in the pipeline.
The cover girl has a loving support system including her mother Inez, whom she gushed about to T&C, as well as actor boyfriend Garrett Hedlund.
'We've been together for three and a half years, so, yes, it's going really well. We're the same age. We have similar backgrounds," she shared adding, 'He feels like family to me.'
