They were married for five years, and although it seems like a lifetime in terms of Hollywood marriages, it is hard to believe in such a short time Katie Holmes's life was completely turned around during her time with Tom Cruise.
In the years she was married to the megastar, the actress, now 33, bore her first child, a daughter called Suri and converted to the actor's beloved Church Of Scientology.
And now, following the news that she is parting ways with the Top Gun star, new pictures have emerged of the former Dawson's Creek star before her days of Tom, Suri and Scientology.

In the mostly black and white snaps, the actress is pictured as a fresh-faced youth enjoying her teenage years in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio.
Katie, who has since appeared in the long-running TV series Dawson's Creek and several movies including Go and Batman Begins, was already an aspiring star appearing on stage as King of Pop Michael Jackson during a school production.
And sources said Holmes was a model student during her time at the posh all girls Notre Dame Academy in the mid 1990s.

The new candid snaps emerged after Katie sensationally revealed on Friday that she is divorcing her husband of fives years Tom, despite the couple depicting the image of the perfect Hollywood family.

Following the news Cruise said he was ‘deeply saddened’ that his younger wife had filed for the separation.
He revealed that Holmes had initiated the split, bringing a dramatic end to one of Tinseltown's most high-profile romances.
Holmes has asked for sole custody of the couple's six-year-old daughter Suri.
She has asked for legal custody, primary residential custody and a 'suitable amount' of child support from her husband, TMZ has reported.

Holmes's lawyer Jonathan Wolfe made it clear what his client's priority is in a statement to People magazine: 'Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest.'
Since the news of the split, Holmes's Catholic parents Kathleen and Martin Holmes are said to be happy to have their daughter back.
A source told RadarOnline.com: 'It's been tough for them over the past five years to watch Katie be controlled by Tom and they really felt that they had lost their daughter to some extent.

As well as seeking custody of Suri, Holmes is also asking for a division of property in the divorce documents, although there is a significant pre-nuptial agreement that is based on California law.
The couple are worth around $275million - much of that owing to Tom's box office success.

The terms of the pre-nup are understood to be clear - for each year the couple stay married, the Dawson's Creek actress collects $3million - to a maximum of $33 million after 11 years - as well as their palatial home in California.
If their marriage had lasted more than 11 years, Holmes would have received half of Cruise’s reportedly $250million fortune.
After filing for divorce less than six years later, according to the agreement, Katie should only be entitled to $15million as well as the couple's $35million Beverly Hills Mansion
But with an estate worth upwards of $275million, Katie is expected to seek much more and there is already intense speculation as to how much she will collect when the papers are signed.
