'I was a jock in school': Nina Dobrev looks far from her tomboy roots as she models funky hairstyles in magazine shoot

She is idolised by young women across the globe thanks to her part in The Vampire Diaries.

But despite being envied for her beautiful looks, Nina Dobrev insists she doesn’t make that much of an effort to look great.

Appearing in a photo shoot for Glamour magazine, the 23-year-old shows off her gorgeous brunette locks in a variety of styles, admitting it is her her long tresses which enable her to be versatile for her TV roles.

The star who is Elena Gilbert as well as doppelgänger Katherine Pierce in the show said: ‘Changing my hair helps me transform!’

While she shows off a number of funky crops, including a fuzzy beehive with butterfly embellishment and a curly bob which appears to be pinned into a graduated style, she wasn’t all that enthusiastic about experimenting with beauty when she was younger.

She admitted: ‘I was kind of a jock in school. Beauty wasn’t something I spent a lot of time on. Now I ask every hair and make-up artist I work with for tips. I’m in beauty school by association!’

The best beauty advice she’s ever been given is simply to wash her face at the end of the night, ‘There’s nothing worse than sleeping in makeup. You wake up looking like a painting that’s been left out in a rainstorm.’

It’s no wonder why she has such a relaxed approach to her routine, due her mother’s traditional influence.

Dobrev confessed: ‘My mom didn't start wearing makeup or hairspray until she was, like, 40- she's the least vain person ever.

‘When I became an actress, she said, “I know they need your hair for this show, but you're going to need your hair for the rest of your life, so take care of it.” Since that day, I've been very diligent. I do hair masks multiple times a week, and I don't blow-dry if I'm not working.’

The images styled by Chris McMillan indicate that the Canadian star is stepping out of her usually-shy personality to promote the new series of her programme.

But as well as her quirky beauty looks, she recently stepped it up a notch with her fashion sense.
Appearing on Extra, she wore a see-through top, showing her bra beneath.
