End of an era! Channel 4 axe 'hangover TV' T4 after 14 years
It was known as 'hangover TV' to twentysomethings as they recovered from their weekend nights out.
However, after 14 years and numerous presenting careers launched, Channel 4 is axing T4.
The brand ran on Saturday and Sunday mornings on C4, featuring presenting segments, links and interviews in between shows such as Hollyoaks, Friends and Scrubs.
Farewell: T4, starring (L-R) Matt Edmondson, Nick Grimshaw and Jamella Jamil, is coming to an end
Over the years it has launched or boosted the careers of many presenters, including Alexa Chung, Dermot O'Leary, Vernon Kay and Nick Grimshaw.
Princess Productions, who were responsible for programming, will cease production on T4 in December.
Among those to pay tribute to show on Twitter is outgoing presenter Jameela Jamil.
Memories: Current T4 host Jameela and former presenter Vernon Kay tweeted their sadness
She wrote: Yes. It is true and it is very sad... T4 will be closing its doors this is (sic) year... This is probably want ol' Nostradamus was ravin' on about.'
Former T4 presenter Vernon, who hosted the show from 2000-2005, tweeted: 'Very sad T4 is ending. The start of great things for many many people, in front of and behind the camera!! I loved it and always will.'
The decision comes amid a declining youth audience for the channel, as E4 has become the main channel for the 16-34 audience.
Back in the day: Margarita Taylor and Dermot O'Leary presented the show from its inception in 1998
T4 recently moved to E4 on Sundays to accommodate Princess Production's newer shower Sunday Brunch.
Head of formats Dominic Bird is now looking at creating three new music shows to pilot in the new year.
He said: 'This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to develop a credible popular music show for Friday nights and the pilots reflect our continued ambition to provide our younger audiences on Channel 4 with a range of entertaining music content.
Where it all started: Vernon Kay and June Sarpong hosted the show in the early Noughties
'Whilst T4 has historically been a much loved destination for our young audiences, its popularity has been incrementally diminished over time by the digital revolution. In a landscape where Channel 4 now provides E4, the nation’s most popular channel for 16 -34 year olds,
'T4 has been fighting incredibly hard maintain the cut through it once enjoyed and now is the right time to look at more appropriate ways to serve our younger viewers.'
