'The Administration does not support blowing up planets': White House releases hilarious letter refusing petition to build a Death Star
By PETER RUGG
Bad news for geeks: the White House will not be building a Death Star.
When the White House received a petition with more than 25,000 signatures they had to respond, and they did so in good humor citing the costs of the station, and the administration's strict stance on not blowing up planets.
'The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon,' wrote Paul Shawcross in the response, titled, 'Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016. This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For.'
Too expensive: The hundreds of billions of dollars needed to construct a Death Star just aren't cost effective
The bullet points are these:
'The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.'
'The Administration does not support blowing up planets.'
'Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?'
Though it's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't seen Star Wars, for anyone who hasn't the Death Star was the terrifying weaponized space station controlled by the evil empire in the space saga.
Keep reaching for the stars: While a Death Star is out of reach for now, the administration encouraged people to pursue careers in fields that could conquer space one day
While a Death Star isn't in the cards, the White House did encourage people to pursue careers that could make a massive space station possible one day.
'If you do pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field, the Force will be with us! Remember, the Death Star's power to destroy a planet, or even a whole star system, is insignificant next to the power of the Force,' Shawcross wrote.
The full response can be read at the White House's site.
