She is hoping to make a big comeback to the music scene with a brand new image.
But American Idol 2004 winner Fantasia Barrino feels her quest has suffered a major setback after a magazine chose to use an old picture of her on the cover of their latest issue.
The Grammy-winning star – whose new single Lose To Win is due out this year – features on the March 18 edition of Jet along with the title 'Rumours, Regrets & What’s Next.’
Controversial: The new issue of Jet magazine used an old image of Fantasia Barrino on its cover
'False': The furious singer defaced the publication on Twitter
However the 28-year-old is fuming with anger because the publication chose to use an outdated shot as opposed to selecting from a range of photographs she had supplied for them.
Alongside a defaced version of the magazine cover with the word ‘False’ printed on it three times, she wrote: ‘This saddens Me!!! It is clear that this picture is 10 Years Old and JET Magazine puts it on the Cover!! After I send them the NEW LOOK AND DIRECTION. . SAD!!! I WANT A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM JET.
‘Now im not sure if the interview is correct. SEE!! America they and use me as they crash Dummy BUT NO MORE. IF I DONT STAND FOR SOMETHING ILL FALL FOR ANYTHING.’
New look: The star was angry new publicity shots of her were not used on a magazine cover
Fantasia later shared publicity shots from her latest album Side Effects of You which were believed to have been provided for use, but rejected by Jet.
The pictures show her with fringed short black shiny tresses with dark lipstick and nails.
In one image she dons long patent gloves and the other sees her donning a fur stole over he shoulders.
The singer captioned the post featuring the cover of her LP, ‘My Baby!!! My Blood, Sweat, Tears. My Name, My Joy, My Pain, My Album.. Side Effects of You!!!!! ROCK♥SOUL.’
She also took her rant to other social media forums, writing on her Twitter page on Wednesday: ‘Well hello everybody once again I have been picked out to be picked on but I do know that Greater is coming its a Rock♥Soul movement!’
Speaking about the decade-old images which show her past style, she continued: ‘It's a minor set back for a major come back! I'm giving you all of me and that's Rock♥Soul!!!’
After her fans chimed in to the discussion she added: ‘I'm getting tweets about why my team didn't do this or that or what should've been done WHAT I'M TELLING YOU IS this was NOT an approved pic.’
Not clean: The publication claimed the shots did not show off a great beauty profile
She ended the rant: ‘I'm blocking ALL NEGATIVITY and moving forward.’
Fantasia did get a response from Jet but it was not an apology.
Editor-in-chief, Mitzi Miller, said in a statement on Friday: ‘JET magazine is honored to have Fantasia grace the cover of its March issue. It is unfortunate that Fantasia is displeased with the cover selection, however JET stands by its decision.
'As standard editorial practice, JET consulted with Fantasia's team, but reserves the right to select the image we deem as most appropriate for JET's brand and reflective of the cover story sentiment. JET continues to root for Fantasia's success and encourages her fans to pick up the new issue.’
The publication further explained that the images that were sent from Fantasia's team showed ‘the singer's face obstructed and were very ornate - not clean, beauty profile shots as needed for a cover.’
