Rita Ora on refusing her record label's advice on how to dress

'It's like somebody telling you what to sing': Rita Ora on refusing her record label's advice on how to dress

Since bursting onto the scene last year, Rita Ora has quickly made headlines with her eccentric and eye-catching style choices.
However, while some may speculate her wardrobe is the work of a stylist hired by her record label, the British singer insists it's her very much her own fashion decisions.
As she poses in couture for the May issue of Elle US, Rita said she would be furious if someone tried to tell her how to dress.

She said: 'That should never be allowed! It’s like somebody telling you what to sing,'
Although Rita has firmly established herself on the music scene with her cool, dance-infused pop, she admits her childhood idols were the Spice Girls.
Rita was just six years old when they burst into the charts with Wannabe, so she was the prime target audience of the cheesy five-piece.

She explained: 'I just remember watching them – not even meeting them - and I was completely mesmerized. It feels great to meet someone who is not human, but is.'
Although it's been four years since she signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, Rita still has to pinch herself when it comes to realising what she has achieved.
She admitted: 'I didn’t think in a million years that I’d fly to New York to meet one of the biggest music moguls of our time.'

However, she did have to be quite confident when it came to convincing Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman to let her wear a red gown she had her eye on.
She said: 'I went up to Georgina and said, "Hi, I’m Rita. Nice to meet you. I need to wear your dress."
'She was like, "What dress?" They’ve got 10 million dresses. I said, "Look, I have your dress as the screen saver on my phone. This red dress needs to be on my body."'
The full interview is in the new issue of Elle US magazine, on sale now.
