'You shall not go to the ball!': Cate Blanchett is beautifully sinister as the evil stepmother opposite Lily James' Cinderella in the live-action trailer
Charlize Theron and Julia Roberts have both played evil step-mothers and now it's another Oscar winner's turn to be given the Disney villain treatment.
And Cate Blanchett certainly doesn't look like she'll disappoint as Cinderella's sinister 'care-giver'< lady Tremaine, in the new live-action trailer for the cinematic adaption of the classic fairytale.
Oozing beautiful wickedness, Cate brilliantly encapsulates the nefarious character opposite Lily James as the classic Disney princess.
Don't mess with the Lady: Cate Blanchett plays the evil stepmother in the live-action trailer for the new Cinderella film
Bad eggs: Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera play the ugly stepsisters
Cinder-Ella: In the film the Disney princess's famous name is actually an insulting nickname created by her step-siblings
But the trailer first introduces Cinderella's mother, played by Hayley Atwell, who tells her young daughter: 'I want to tell you a secret that will see you through all the trials that life can offer. Have courage and be kind.'
It then fast-forwards to a teenage Cinderella whose father (Ben Chaplin) tells her: 'She'll merely be your step-mother and you'll have two lovely sisters to keep you company. So I'll know as far away I may be you'll be safe.'
Of course, anyone who knows the fairytale is aware just how wrong Cindy's dad turns out to be and soon enough the smiling stepmother and her two 'ugly' stepsisters are forcing the orphan to do all the chores and calling her names.
Mother: Hayley Atwell plays Ella's mother in the film though she didn't appear in the 1950s animation
Meet-cute: Lily James and Richard Madden play the lovebirds
Disney makeover: Richard Madden kept his Stark accent but was given a clean cut look for his role as Prince Charming
Vintage effect: Cate's Lady Tremaine seems to have been given a 1940s retro wardrobe and stye for the film
Imitation: Disney have tried to keep the imagery as visually close to the animated movie
Holliday Grainger and Downton Abbey Star Sophie McShera play Anastasia and Drizella, and in this adaption it seems 'Cinderella' is a horrible nickname for their pretty step-sibling called Ella.
Richard Madden keeps his King in the North accent for the role of Prince Charming, and he certainly seems a lot more clean cut than Robb Stark.
Continuing the tale, Ella is told by her stepmother 'It would be an insult to take you to the palace dressed in these old rags. You shall not go to the ball.'
Here to help: Helena Bonham Carter plays the Fairy Godmother
Making magic happen: The Fairy Godmother transforms Cinderella's ripped dress
Transformation: CGI helps recreate the magic from the animation for the live action film
Her chariot awaits: Cinderella arrives for the ball in her pumpkin coach
Envy of all: Even the ball scene looks visually identical to the 1950 animation
But of course Helena Bonham Carter's Fairy Godmother steps into magically save the day.
The viewer gets a look at the CGI glass slippers, which Cinderella is told she'll 'find are really comfortable', and then she's off to the ball enjoying her dance with the Prince.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the live-action feature is brought to life using the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece.
Cinderella is released next year in the US on March 13 and the UK on March 27
Comfy too: The famous slippers are shown in full glory
