Britain’s Got Sob Stories: BGT is back and Amanda Holden is already reduced to tears after ‘touching’ shadow dancing routine
By FAY STRANG
She regularly teared up at the drop of a hat during the last six series of Britain’s Got Talent.
And it seems the new series, which begins on Saturday night, is due to be exactly the same after Amanda Holden is left blubbing in the first episode.
The 43-year-old can’t contain her emotions while watching a group of shadow dancers who in true talent show style tell a sob story but with a twist - they express it through dance.
Here we go again: Amanda Holden is seen crying in a preview of Britain's Got Talent
After the nine Hungarian entertainers, called Attraction, finish their piece, a moved Amanda dabs at her eyes.
She tells them: ‘My goodness. I actually can’t speak. I found that just so emotional and touching. You just made me really think about everything. It was amazing.’
Fellow judge Alesha Dixon, who managed to withhold from crying more than Amanda last year, is equally as impressed.
Moved: Amanda tells the dance group she is moved by their performance while Simon simply smirks
Give a dog a bone: Two hopefuls try their luck, one pretending to be a dog, the other plays the accordion
Laughter: There is bound to be a lot of laughter particularly when the likes of Hot Gusset perform
She gushes: ‘That was so beautiful, just so poignant and emotional. I kind of forgot that we were here and you just drew me in completely. It was fantastic. Loved it.’
Funnyman David is perhaps a little more reserved with his feelings, telling them: ‘Guys it was absolutely faultless.’
However the performance struck a chord with the usually hard faced Simon who declares: ‘Wow. That was quite something
Serious talent: 11-year-old Arixsandra Libantino is set to really wow the judges with her impressive vocals
Barking mad: Ehsanul Chy raises eyebrows doing impressions of animals
Comedy: James Heany performs a song about being in love with David Walliams
‘Guys I just want to say thank you actually for coming over to enter this competition. I’m always very flattered when people from other countries want to compete on this show and it is one of the best acts I’ve ever seen in terms of originality and it was very touching.’
Aside from the obligatory tears from Amanda, it looks like there’s going to be a few laughs, as Simon will be hauled on stage for a raunchy striptease during the episode.
Other acts that will be gracing TV screens include a mother and daughter country singing duo, who look like they may draw a few buzzes.
Joker in training: 14-year-old stand-up comedian Jack Carroll , who was born with Cerebral Palsy puts on a great show
Support: Ant and Dec are on hand again this series to support all of the acts off the stage
There’s also a comedian dog impersonator, a 14-year-old comedian and a song about constipation.
Meanwhile viewers will get the chance to see the bromance between Simon and David blossom.
Speaking behind the scenes Simon is heard saying to David: ‘You’re actually in love with me aren’t you.'
Impressive: Gospel choir Incognita leave the judges wowed with their incredible performance
Intrigue: Preview images suggest that some of the guests will be bringing surprise acts to the stage
To which David replies: ‘A little bit yeah. But that’s good. It’s not a bad thing is it.’
But it seems it may be a bit much for egotistical Simon who responds: ‘It’s not great.’
The audition shows were filmed in Cardiff, London, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham, with 45 semi-finalists being chosen to go through to the live shows.
Lackluster: A mother and daughter country duo don't appear to be setting the stage alight
Nerves: It's not all plain sailing for contestants like Hayley May who forgets her lyrics
Nine acts will then perform for the public vote on each of the five live programmes, with ten acts then going through to the final.
It was recently announced that the BBC’s rival talent contest The Voice is set to move to a later timeslot in the Saturday evening schedules after it was revealed that it would be in direct competition with the ITV show.
BGT will be screened at 7pm, which would put it in direct competition with its BBC One rival for the majority of its running time.
