The Voice's Kylie Minogue 'rain dances' around her chair to secure 16-year-old Rachael O'Connor after stellar performance

The Voice's Kylie Minogue 'rain dances' around her chair to secure 16-year-old Rachael O'Connor after stellar performance

It was a busy night for The Voice judges, Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am.
But appearing like the shining star of the evening was the final act of the night, Northern Ireland's Rachael O'Connor, 16, from Derry.
Singing her own rendition of Clown by Emeli Sande was enough for Kylie, Tom and Ricky to all turn around.

An ecstatic Kylie, who proceeded to 'rain dance' around her chair said: 'You are what I was just dreaming to hear and then to see - you were so moving, touching, the purity in your voice.'
Tom said: 'I loved it, I think you sound original, as young as you are I think you've found yourself.'
Ricky: 'It was great, your confidence poured over the back of my chair like a tidal wave.'
But in the end, the rain dance worked and she went with Kylie Minogue.

But the day's events got even busier when they were greeted by not one but two sets of twins eager to join one of their teams.
First up was Tila and Tavelah, 18, singing Just Can't Get Enough, and Ricky was the only judge to turn around.
Dressed in matching shades of purple, the girls put on a confident performance as they worked the stage.

'I really like how you guys flipped that around - was really dope,' said Will.i.am.
'You could go a long way in this,' said their coach Ricky.
Then it was time for the second pair, 'double trouble' Lauren and Kimberley, known as Gemyni, to sing Mariah Carey's Fantasy.
Looking like no one was going to turn, Kylie, Ricky and Tom Jones all hit their buttons for the pair at the last minute.
Double take: Gemyni also managed to be the first two girls to join Kylie's team

Ricky said: 'I must have a thing for twins because I've already got a set of twins but then you were too good to not turn around.
Tom said: 'I loved it and I don't have a duo on my team so here I am.
Kylie said: 'I had to press my button, and I don't have any chicks on my team so I'd love to have you.'
After the pitches, the pair decided to pick Kylie Minogue, making them the first girls on the pop princess' team.

But the rest of the show was not without other stellar performances.
Showing resilience and determination, Jessica Steele, 22, Sheffield, auditioned for the show last year, and came back fighting after failing to secure a coach previously.
Singing She Said, by Plan B, a normally hesitant Will.i.am was the first to turn around, followed by Kylie, Tom Jones and Kaiser Chief's Ricky Wilson.
'I could tell the road you are from - I loved it,' said Ricky.
Wanted: All four judges wanted to have Jessica on their team

'That was fresh,' said Will.i.am' 'you look familiar though.'
'You got really emotional when you got the second turn, you weren't even thinking about singing anymore,' he added.
Kylie said: 'You didn't just get over the finish line, you belted over the finish line.
Tom said: 'The first thing I want to know is why I didn't turn around last season - you've got something that is special and that is what I loved about it.'
Jessica then asked Will.i.am: 'Would you fight for me?'
He replied: 'See these fists and these fists?' to which Kylie replied 'See these heels.'
Jessica summed up by saying: 'I'm going to go with Will.'
Not quite enough: Bunny did not do enough to get through

Singing accountant, Malaysia-born, Bunny, 56, from Ipswich, was next to perform for the judges, and chose Rocket Man as his choice of song.
Ricky said: 'It was a really great performance, and you could tell you was a bit nervous but I enjoyed that sound.'
Tom added: 'For me it was too much like the original, I would have liked to hear you do something else with it.
Will.i.am said: 'The only thing that was missing was the emotion - probably because you were nervous.'
Kylie added: 'I have to agree with Will, letting go is a really hard thing, especially on this stage.
A disappointed Bunny said: 'I think this is my last shot, I'll take up golfing instead.'
'No don't stop, don't stop,' the judges and the audience chanted.
Impressive: All the judges were impressed with Sarah

Next up was 27-year-old Sarah Eden-Winn, Weston-Super-Mare, singing the classic ballad One Night Only, by Dreamgirls.
But the judges waited for the last second, before Will, Ricky and Tom all pushed their buttons.
An impressed Kylie said: 'That was pretty flawless and huge.'
Tom said: 'I listened from the beginning I loved the sound of your voice, it was flawless, so hopefully, we can work together.
Ricky added: 'These guys are starting to play games now, well done, it was fantastic.'
Will said: I thought you were fantastic, but probably wasn't the best song to show how amazing your voice is, but if you join my team we'll be very careful with song choices.'
Sarah decided to go with Will.i.am despite the audience chanting for Tom, and even the judges all expecting the singer to choose the Welsh singing legend.

The gloves were off for mum-of-one Jai Thompson, 24, from Belfast, came onto the voice to pursue her dream of becoming a recording artist and chose Noisettes Never Forget You as her song choice.
Will.i.am and Ricky turned around straight away followed in quick succession by Kylie and Tom.
The judges looked mesmerised with the singer, who looked trendy in a pair of skintight leather trousers.
'You don't sound like anyone which I like,' said Tom.
Ricky said: 'That was really good, you've obviuosly got something and it's going to be magical, and I can't wait for you to sing again.'
'Aside from the wee obvious I like your wee earrings, and wee boots and wee tattoos,' said Will.
Confident: The mum-of-one not only sung but danced on the stage

'Your voice is incredible, I know exactly what to do with a voice like yours, and like your moves.'
But then the claws came out when Ricky said: 'He would be great for you if he could stay off his phone for five minutes.'
A sharp Will quickly replied: 'It's about multitasking and connecting the dots.'
Kylie, quick to disperse the tension, said: 'I have a bag, I can give you anything, look perfume, I got spectacles, or have my badge to get in whenever you want.'
Despite the boys bickering, Jai ended up going for Kylie Minogue.
A shocked Kylie said: 'I thought Will had that sewn up.'

Amy Winehouse fan, Melissa 21, from Portway, sung Love Is A Losing Game, by Amy Winehouse.
Right at the end, Kylie, Tom and Ricky all turned around.
'I kind of expected you would look foxy, it was smoky and lovely,' said Kylie
Ricky said: 'I get the general vibe from you that you're not very mouldable, I had to turn because I could not help it.
Tom added: 'You sing great and it was pure and you meant it but I would like to hear more of what you can do, but whatever way it will be, it will be great.'
Despite a good pitch from all the judges, Melissa chose Tom Jones as her coach.

60s music fan, John Quinn, 31, from Peterborough, singing Lightening Bolt, got the judges bobbing in the seats.
But unfortunately it was not enough for any of the judges to turn around in their chairs.
Ricky said: 'It was really good, Jake Bugg track, I just don't think I'm ready to be blown away by it.'
Tom added: 'It was too much like the original, there was nothing wrong with it but it just wasn't fresh.'

28-year-old Leanne Jones, from Stoke-On-Trent, has won a number of awards for Hairspray on the West End stage, but now wants to be a solo singer in her own right.
She took to the stage to sing Skyfall, by Adele, but surprisingly none of the judges turned around for her.
Kylie said: 'I thought you pretty much nailed an Adele song, but not enough to individualise it.'
Ricky said: 'Adele is like the Michael Phelps of singing, only reason I say that is that don't do in the same style as Adele.'
