Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw and Romola Garai at star-studded Suffragette premiere in London

Carey Mulligan creates a statement in sheer powder purple tulle dress at star-studded Suffragette premiere in London... following the birth of her first child

Earlier in the day at the opening of the 59th BFI London Film Festival she made her first public appearance after reportedly giving birth to her first child.
Returning to the spotlight in stunning fashion, Carey Mulligan made a statement on Wednesday evening at the Suffragette premiere.
Taking to the red carpet at London's Odeon Leicester Square, the 30-year-old cut a delicate figure in a powder purple tulle dress.

Mulligan, who is married to rocker Marcus Mumford, is said to have recently become a first-time mother according to E! News
A source said: 'Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby. She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends.'
The birth has also been reported by Us Weekly, with a source saying: 'The baby is healthy. They have been loving being parents and their friends and family are thrilled.'
The private actress had not confirmed she was expecting a child, but reports surfaced earlier this year when she was seen at a stream of events wearing oversized, voluminous clothing and sporting a bump.
There is no confirmation on whether the under-the-radar couple have had a baby boy or a girl.

Meanwhile, Meryl Streep was hard to miss at the red carpet affair as she stood out in a bright outfit.
Owning the event, the iconic American actress looked divine in a plunging cobalt blue gown beautified with twist and knot detail.
Styling her hair in a chic up do, Streep, 66, put on a flawless display as she posed for pictures.

Helena Bonham Carter was also in tow at the star-studded premiere but clearly decided enough was enough when she found her high heels a little too much to bear on the red carpet.
Posing for photos, the 49-year-old went barefoot as she shunned her usual kooky style for a very simple black velvet dress which had semi-sheer sections at the front.
Helena tied her brunette locks up and on top of her head while keeping to her trademark gothic style with a pale palette of make-up and a slash of colour to her tonal look thanks to ruby red lipstick.

However, Helena's heels were not the only things wreaking havoc at the premiere as protesters campaigning for more support for victims of domestic violence in Britain picketed the event.
The demonstration arranged by the Sisters Uncut group, set off smoke flares and laid down on the red carpet as they chanted 'dead women can't vote'.
The film's stars Mulligan and Bonham Carter said the protest, which the group said was inspired by the suffragettes, was the 'perfect response' to the movie's message.

The protesters carried banners saying 'cuts kill' and 'dead women can't vote'.
'We are suffragettes,' they shouted, and 'Domestic violence cuts kill,' referring to cuts to domestic abuse services.
Other protesters held banners with the words '50/50 Parliament', calling for equality in the British Government.
During the incident the red carpet was temporarily shut down as security guards attempted the remove the protesters.

On Wednesday afternoon Carey and her co-star joined forces at The Lanesborough Hotel, as they launched the BFI London Film Festival with their new film Suffragette.
The British star kept her look on the glamorous side of casual, teaming a patterned sweater with a contrasting printed skirt.
The chunky knitwear, black with a metallic orange floral design, was a bold choice with her blue hued A-line skirt, that sat just to her knees.

The beauty wore her mid-length brown locks down and lightly curled for the event, while keeping her make-up light and natural.
Meanwhile Oscar-winner Meryl, 66, looked youthful in her pretty lilac, black and green dress, her blonde locks worn simply in a loose, carefree style.
The pair looked to be having a whale of a time on the red carpet, joking about with one another, before sitting down to chat about the film at a small press conference.

Carey's appearance was the first she has made in public in several months, after she was reported to be pregnant with her first child with husband Marcus, of folk-rock group Mumford & Sons, earlier this year.
The actress had been pictured wearing loose-fitting outfits, sparking rumours that she was carrying a child.
Although there has been no confirmation of a baby from her side, she did recently speak out about her desire to be a mother and hinted at the exciting 'next phase' of her life.
She said in an interview with ELLE magazine: 'I've always wanted to be a mother. I love what I do, but I'm excited for this next phase of my life.'

One of the more notable appearances was at the 2015 Tony Awards: Carey stepped out on the red carpet in a striking, voluminous red dress that completely distracted from her slender figure.
And it was shortly after then that Us Weekly claimed she was pregnant.
A source close to the Drive actress, who was nominated for her role in Broadway play Skylight at the time, told the site: 'They weren't planning on announcing, but she hasn't stopped working.
'Everybody around her is being very supportive. The show ends soon and they're going back to England after.'

Carey had been setting the rumour mill whirring in the late spring due to her public appearances, which saw her veer towards trapeze-shaped dresses or billowing shirts, but she and her husband of three years remained tight-lipped.
She had previously admitted her desire to have children, though, as she gave an insight during another interview.
Carey shared her views about having kids in a chat with The Mirror, saying: 'I don't think you can ever be worried about your career when it comes to stuff like that. You've got to have some perspective.'

Meanwhile, period drama Suffragette, directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan, tells the story of the British women's suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, with Streep playing British suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
Helen Pankhurst, the great grand-daughter of suffragette Emmeline, and Laura Pankhurst - Emmeline's great great grand-daughter - will also attend the gala screening, which comes ahead of the film's release on October 12.
Carey's character Maud in Suffragete - which also stars Helena Bonham Carter - is a working wife and mother whose life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the UK's growing suffragette movement led by Pankhurst.
Maud becomes a foot soldier for the cause alongside women from all walks of life, who are eventually forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State.

Radicalised and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives.
Talented trio Carey, Meryl and Helena lead the charge as leaders and foot soldiers of the women's right to vote fight in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The festival runs from October 7 to 18, with Steve Jobs - starring Michael Fassbender - closing the 10-day event.
