Not ANOTHER dress disaster! Jennifer Lawrence's fairytale gown is drenched as she poses on BAFTAs red carpet in the pouring rain
By SARAH BULL
She was left red-faced by an apparent dress disaster when her structured gown split apart at the Golden Globe awards last month.
And as Jennifer Lawrence attended the EE BAFTA Awards in London on Sunday night, she found herself the victim of another fashion disaster when her fairytale Dior gown was drenched by the rainy British weather.
The Silver Linings Playbook actress was forced to hold up the hem of her embellished gown in a bid to stop it getting completely ruined as she posed up for photographers at the Royal Opera House in the capital.
Another dress disaster! Jennifer Lawrence's fairytale Dior gown was drenched on the red carpet as she posed up at the EE BAFTA Awards in London on Sunday night
Whoops! Jennifer did her best to smile through as she posed for photographers outside the Royal Opera House
That's better: Jennifer later took off the jacket, but still failed to raise a smile as she was photographed
Jennifer, 22, teamed her gown with slicked-back hair, and wore a long black coat over her dress to protect herself from the chilly temperatures.
The pretty blonde star finished off her ensemble with smoky eye make-up, and wore a pair of drop silver earrings for the star-studded occasion.
But Jennifer wasn't the only star to go all out when it came to choosing a glamorous outfit for the red carpet.
Jennifer Garner opted for an unusual origami-style Roland Mouret gown, which flattered her slender figure.
Unusual style: Jennifer Garner shunned the obvious fashion choices in her origami-style Roland Mouret gown for the event
Sexy in studs: Anne Hathaway looked incredible in her studded Burberry gown
The mother-of-three, who was supporting her nominated husband Ben Affleck for his Argo nod, looked toned and lithe in the outfit, which she finished off with a pair of drop earrings and a swept updo.
And Jennifer didn't appear to be letting the weather get in the way of her having a good night, as she was seen laughing and joking with fans and reporters while making her way down the red carpet.
Thandie Newton opted for a sexy black lace halterneck Louis Vuitton gown, with sheer panels to add to its allure. But the actress also appeared to be finding it difficult to cope in the cold, using a friend's pashmina to wrap around herself as she made her way inside.
Sheer perfection: Amy Adams looked incredible in her Elie Saab lace detail gown
Sticking to black: Les Miserables star Samantha Barks, Emilia Fox and Rising Star nominee Alicia Vikander all wore black dresses to the event
Always a trendsetter: Sarah Jessica Parker went against the grain in her black Elie Saab jumpsuit
The 40-year-old actress finished off her look by wearing her curly hair swept to the side, and accessorising with gold jewellery and pink lipstick.
Thandie wasn't the only famous face at the ceremony to play it safe in black.
Another star to go for the wardrobe staple in an LBD was Caroline Flack, who swapped her usual shorts for a stunning black beaded full-length gown as she hosted the red carpet coverage from the event alongside Dermot O'Leary for entertainment channel E!
Lady in lace: Thandie Newton went for a sexier ensemble than her usual outfits in a black lace halterneck Louis Vuitton gown
Red carpet date: Thandie was accompanied by husband Ol Parker on the red carpet
Wrapping up: Les Miserables star Helena Bonham Carter attended with her director partner Tim Burton
Acting veterans: Sally Field and Judi Dench went for long black gowns
Caroline teamed her outfit with several silver rings, and opted for heavy eye make-up to add to the glamour of her ensemble.
The Xtra Factor presenter previously admitted that she was going to go for a long gown rather than her usual short numbers to ensure she stays as warm as possible on the red carpet.
She said: 'I have got a long dress with long sleeves. I am showing absolutely no flesh — I may as well be in a wet suit. I am going to wear long johns — I’m going to have the most attractive underwear on and I am just going to be layered up. If I look a bit chunky it’s because it’s cold.'
Standing out: Jessica Chastain highlighted her flame-red hair in a gorgeous blue Roland Mouret gown
Mellow yellow: Andrea Riseborough and Marion Cotillard both stood out on the red carpet in their yellow dresses
Causing a stir: Helen Mirren, who debuted her pink rinse at the event, looked chic in her sheer dress
But despite her conservative, covered-up gown, Caroline still appeared to be feeling the effects of the chilly weather, tweeting a picture of her frozen 'ice cold' hands.
And black was certainly a popular colour choice among the early arrivals at the event.
Laura Whitmore showed Caroline how to sex up a black ensemble by sporting a plunging jumpsuit, which gave just a hint of side-boob as she posed up for photographers.
Meanwhile, Zoe Ball and pregnant Edith Bowman, who were both presenting from the red carpet, also opted for black gowns for the occasion.
Suited and booted: Ben Affleck and George Clooney both looked smart in their dapper outfits
What's so funny? The pair collapsed into giggles as they shared a joke on the red carpet
Keeping it in the family: Daniel Day Lewis attended with his niece Charissa Shearer
Before things kicked off at the ceremony on Sunday, tourists and locals were seen ignoring the rainy weather to collect outside the venue in a bid to catch a glimpse of the stars arriving.
Behind the screens, a glittering entrance to the venue could be seen, through which a host of famous faces will be entering to learn of their fate.
Nominees at the ceremony include presidential biopic Lincoln, which has 10 nominations, including best picture and best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, epic musical Les Miserables and boy-meets-tiger voyage Life of Pi, which received nine nods each.
Meanwhile, James Bond adventure movie Skyfall received eight nominations at the awards, and Ben Affleck's Argo received seven.
Daring fashion choices: Newly-single Gemma Arterton and Alice Eve went for unusual dresses for the occasion
Enjoying his Homeland: Damian Lewis made an appearance on the red carpet with his wife Helen McCrory
Couple time: Martin Freeman attended with Amanda Abbington, while Mark Strong was accompanied by wife Liza Marshall
Glamorous date night: Rafe Spall attended with his former Hollyoaks star Elize Du Toit
Argo, based on the true story of a group of U.S. diplomats spirited out of Tehran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, is considered to be a front-runner for the best picture gong, over finalists Lincoln, Les Miserables, Life of Pi and Kathryn Bigelow s Osama bin Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty.
Besides Affleck, the heavyweight best-director list includes, Michael Haneke for Amour, Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained, Lee for Life of Pi and Bigelow for Zero Dark Thirty.
The male acting contenders are Affleck, Day-Lewis, Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook, Hugh Jackman for Les Miserables and Joaquin Phoenix for The Master.
Day-Lewis is considered almost certain to win. Bookmaker William Hill put the odds at 1/25, with the next favorite, Jackman, a long way off at 10/1.
Monochrome chic: Juno Temple, also nominated for the Rising Star award, looked stylish in her black and white gown, while Hayley Atwell also went for a monochrome number
Dressed to impress: Caroline Flack admitted she chose a long gown to ensure she was as warm as possible on the red carpet, while Laura Whitmore opted for a plunging jumpsuit
Beautiful in black: Edith Bowman and Zoe Ball also opted for black gowns for their red carpet appearances
Marvellous in metallic: Paloma Faith looked stunning in her silver Nicholas Oakwell dress, teamed with an elaborate updo as she spoke to Zoe on the red carpet
Peekaboo! Both Paloma and The Tudors actress Natalie Dormer went for dresses with a sexy keyhole detail on the front
The best-actress shortlist includes, Amour star Emmanuelle Riva, 85, who was nominated for the same prize 52 years ago for Hiroshima, Mon Amour, Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook, Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone, and Mirren for Hitchcock.
Les Miserables is also a contender in the separate category of best British film, alongside Anna Karenina, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Seven Psychopaths and Skyfall.
Sunday's ceremony will also see director Alan Parker receive a BAFTA Fellowship, the academy's highest honour, for a career that includes Midnight Express, Fame and Mississippi Burning.
Eagerly awaiting the stars: A group of people stand in the rain and watch as preparations are made on the red carpet for the BAFTA British Academy Film Awards outside the Royal Opera House on Sunday night
Last-minute preparations: Cameramen and crew ensure they are ready for the red carpet kick-off
