S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting hammered. So to speak.

Tonight's episode of the ABC Marvel series takes place in the aftermath of the events of Thor: The Dark World, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. gang dealing with an Asgardian object that threatens to destroy one member of the team. Zimbio chatted with actress Chloe Bennet, who plays hacker turned agent Skye, about the Thor-tastic episode, Skye's shifting loyalties, and a potential romance with "soul mate" Ward.

Though Bennet was careful not to offer up any spoilers about tonight's Thor episode ("There are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents listening on the phone."), she did admit that "the episode made a lot more sense to me after watching Thor." And being part of the epic Marvel world of movies, comic books, and TV series is just about as cool as it seems. "I went to see the movie last week and it was so awesome watching the movie and knowing that we're a part of that universe," Bennet said.

As for Skye's shifting allegiances with that universe, Bennet says the character's loyalties are still evolving. On one hand, "she wants to find out more about her parents. She wants to see if they're alive, she wants to see if she has any family out there. And I wouldn't blame her. I would be the exact same way. She doesn't have any family and she doesn't know anything about her past — she doesn't even know her real name. So that's driving her."

But in this quest to learn more about her parents, Bennet says Skye has stumbled upon a brand new family. "You see in the last episode that she had the option to find out more about her parents and to open up these redacted files or to save Ward and Fitz's lives. And she made the choice to save Ward and Fitz," Bennet pointed out. "So she's searching so desperately so her family that she doesn't see how she's sort of falling into one with these people that she's with."

But that doesn't mean there won't be romance somewhere down the line for Skye and another member of the team. There's "definitely potential" for a Skye/Ward relationship, Bennet teased. "I think there was an immediate attraction there. And I think they're the soul mates on the show."

"They're so similar, but they're so different at the same time," she continued. "She doesn't follow the rules and she's really talented in a street smart way. So she has this organic, hippie way of doing things and Ward's the opposite — he's so structured and diligent. But they're both loners and they both want the best for people. They just go about it in completely different ways. I think they're perfect for each other."

Potential Ward action aside, Bennet also revealed that Skye is ready to step out from behind her laptop. "There's definitely some really really fun stuff coming up for Skye in the next couple episodes. Skye will definitely surprise the audience a little bit. You'll be like, 'Oh, that's what she's been doing on the plane this whole time.'"

S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
