She's made a splash in Hollywood with a series of starring roles in teen movies.

And now Bella Thorne is making waves as she was spotted getting a surf lesson in Malibu, California, on Sunday.

The 17-year-old was spotted taking to the sea on a foam board under the guidance and watchful eye of a surf instructor.

The DUFF actress wore her strawberry blonde hair in flowing waves over her shoulders as she slipped on a black wetsuit over a bright pink bikini.

Bella looked to be quite the natural as she stood up on a few waves after being pushed onto the white water by her instructor.

She even managed to strike a couple classic poses while standing atop the blue soft top board.

Later that day Bella and her boyfriend Gregg Sulkin, 23, put on a sweet display as they enjoyed a tender kiss at the beach in Malibu.

Cuddling up affectionately, the lovebirds seemed to be in the holiday spirit after celebrating July 4th at the Bootsy Bellows annual Red, White and Bootsy party the previous day.

The young star opened up about her new relationship with Gregg to Teen Vogue - after admitting that she'd known him for six years before they started dating.

Bella explained that their closeness is based on them both preferring a night in with Netflix over a wild night of partying.

She said: 'Getting to know Gregg has been great. I’ve known him for six yearsour families are close. It’s hard because in this business, every boy my age wants to go out all the time and party!

'I’m much more of a homebody and so is Gregg. He just wants to stay in and watch Netflix. It’s been great so far.

'We’re just hanging out, having fun, and getting to know each other. We’ve agreed to not see other people and are taking things slowly so we can see where it goes over the next few months.'
