They're the first pictures of Selena Gomez to emerge in the wake of ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber's arrest in Miami for DUI in the early hours of Thursday morning.
And in an uncharacteristic move for the squeaky-clean star, she shocked fans as she stopped to pick up a packet of Djarum cigarettes shortly after leaving home in Tarzana, California.
The actress gave little away as she shielded her eyes behind large black Ray-Ban sunglasses, though she appeared to be putting on a brave face as she plastered on a decidedly awkward grin while her love sat in jail on the other side of the country.
However, fans can give breathe a sigh of relief as Selena's sticks were not made of nicotine but in fact clove cigarettes.

The 21-year-old, who was thought to have recently rekindled her on-again, off-again relationship with the 19-year-old singer, gave her ex a good look at what he's missing in her obviously well-thought-out ensemble.
The star showed off her toned figure in a nude-coloured halterneck body suit with plunging neckline, which she teamed with black skinny jeans with gold zipper pocket detail.
She completed her glam wardrobe with black Louboutin booties and a long flowy black cape-style cardigan.
A long gold tasselled necklace featuring an emerald pendant was draped several times around her neck while she also wore a rose gold bindi on her forehead.
The stunning brunette wore her hair loose in messy waves and kept her make-up minimal and natural, with a soft pink hue on her lips.
While the pair have recently been caught up in a series of controversies - including allegations of rude and vile text message exchanges, which were denied by Selena's rep - they have recently been seen together on several occasions as they reportedly get their relationship back on track.

However, Bieber's arrest in Miami in the early hours of the morning for drag racing while under the influence of drugs and alcohol are likely to come as a blow to the Come & Get It singer.
Especially considering the Never Say Never hitmaker was in the company of stunning model Chantel Jeffries at the time of the incident.
The blonde beauty was riding in the passenger seat of Justin's rented yellow Lamborghini when he was stopped by police for speeding and hauled off to jail when it became clear that he was inebriated and high on a cocktail of marijuana and prescription drugs.

Selena previously revealed that she cried when she had to smoke a fake cigarette for her role in last year's box office bomb Spring Breakers, which is in stark contrast to her appearance on Thursday.
'The scene where I'm sitting under the lamppost, there are tears running down my face because I was so disgusted - it was so gross,' she famously said of shooting the smoking scene.
'I didn't even know how to hold a cigarette, I was like, "What do I do?"'
