Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill is pregnant with her first child.
The news means the 27-year-old, who married childhood sweetheart Andy Hill in May 2013, will be forced to miss out on the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The sports star said in a statement: ‘I have some very unexpected but exciting news to share – Andy and I are expecting a baby. We are completely overwhelmed, with excitement and a degree of anxiety that I am sure all first time parents will relate to.
'My plans for 2014 have been completely turned upside down, but having had a couple of weeks to think about things from a career point of view I am 100% set on returning to full time athletics once our baby is born and go for a second gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 – that challenge really excites me.

'But in the short term I will make our baby a priority and enjoy the whole experience as much as possible.
'I am sorry I won’t be in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, but know it will be an amazing occasion. I will be at home awaiting the arrival of a little Ennis-Hill'.
Jessica married Andy at a ceremony in Derbyshire last year, after getting engaged in 2010. The two have been together for over eight years and met as teenagers in Sheffield.

'He was saying all these lovely things,' Jessica told Hello! magazine after Andy proposed at the couple's Sheffield home on Christmas Eve that year. 'I thought, 'It really sounds like he's going to propose, but he can't be.'
'Then he got the ring out of his pocket,' she added. 'It was an amazing feeling.'
Jessica added that when she first set eyes on Andy she thought he was really good looking and out of her league.

Olympics gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill recently admitted the pressure is still on her as an ahtlete despite her heptathlon success in London.
She suffered an ankle injury during 2013 which forced her to miss the World Championships in Moscow. As the poster girl in London she believes everyone still expects her to perform to a similar standard whenever she competes.
Winner: Jessica is one the country's finest female athletes and plans to still compete in Rio
Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: 'When I think about the pressure before the Olympics it was utter madness. Just seeing myself on billboards and stuff was like: ''Wow this is crazy.''
'I kept trying to keep it as real as possible and think, this is just another year, another championships. I'm competing against the same girls.'
'The pressure is still there. It's just a different kind of pressure. Now people expect me to keep winning. You've got to maintain it and that's a real challenge.'
